COLLAR STAINS ON COATS FROM SKINCARE

Since I apply everything on my face and also neck (on down in summer), the inside collars of my black jackets and coats seem to get whitish stains. I can wipe it off with a wet cloth but there it is agian the next time I wear it.

If it's really cold, I can put a long scarf inside my collar, but in the fall and end of winter it's iffy weather. Any suggestions?

@Shanus My secret formula for a stain remover is hydrogren peroxide mixed with Dawn dish soap. Works on everything and really well!

@Shanus Yes, I have always protected my jackets and nice coats with scarves. I have a large collection of silk and cotton scarves and wear one with a coat, to add color and to protect the collars. In the winter, I wear warm scarves. Scarves really do finish the look.

It also saves on dry cleaning bills. I remember my grandmother always wearing a scarf with her coats and I don't mean just heavy winter scarves.

When we went to Italy in 2006, it was April and a little cool early in the day. Women were wearing jackets and every Italian woman I saw, was wearing a scarf. Scarves are very popular in France, too.

When we were in Florence, I bought a leather coat and the salesperson automatically grabbed a silk scarf to finish the look and she tied it in a different way, from what I was accustomed. I really liked it and bought three beautiful silk scarves. I'm sure that is part of her sales tactic, but it works and

jackets and coats really look nicer with a scarf to complete the look.

I use Scotchgard on some of my coats and especially on some of my fabric shoes. That seems to help them stay clean longer and if they do get soiled then it's easier to clean.

Thanks for the tip!! What is the ratio of hydrogen peroxide to Dawn detergent? Do you rinse it with water afterwards? I really appreciate your collar "solution"! 😀

I always set my liquid makeup with a translucent powder, or use mineral makeup.

Otherwise it'll rub off. Perhaps blotting off extra could help?

Years ago I got some sort of makeup on an ivory blouse and tried the Pssst Dry Shampoo ..... lifted it up in about 60 seconds!

Hydrogen peroxide is a bleach, not suitable for black jackets.

If you wet that stain, it will likely set; I would just take it to the cleaner.

I've never had that problem. Not even on my turtlenecks where I sometimes forget my neck cream until after I've put it on. Of course, they get washed often. I probably wear my coats open rather than buttoned all the way up. Also, I never wear color cosmetics on my neck. A scarf would probably drive me crazy.

This is the absolute bane of my existence!

Every collar, top of my shirt gets tinted sunscreen on it and I only wear white and lighter shirts/jackets (I look terrible in dark colors)...

I just spray "Shout it out" stain remover and scrub and soak in a little laundry soap. It takes a little elbow grease but I can usually always get it out....

I also use "Shout It Out" on fabrics that can be laundered.

Coats, blazers, jackets and silk blouses go to the dry cleaners. There isn't another really good option IMO.

ETA: Don't forget to launder or send those scarves to the cleaners, too! That make-up gets in them and needs to be removed before it transfers to other pieces of clothing without warning.

Discovered the Astonish Stain Removal bar a few years ago. It has removed stains that had been on my cousin's sweat shirts and washed and dried many times. They looked " vintage." When he passed, I took the used sweatshirts for DH to use with his garage projects.

First, I sprayed a little Shout to wet the stains and then scrubbed the stain bar on them. The sweatshirts came out as clean as when they were first put on.

To buy: visit starcrest dot com and get the bar for $5 vs. $47 on Amazon. ( That isn't a typo believe me !!! )

To use: suggest using only one end of the bar to keep a flat surface that smooths evenly onto the surface you are cleaning.

Ci have a large collection of scarves in various fabrics - I always wear a scarf to avoid makeup on my coat or jacket collars.

A thin chiffon scarf is good for mild weather.

Shout was going to be my suggestion too!

Last winter I began carrying SHOUT with me everywhere I went and I just found a box of them yesterday in my glove box.

For me, it is quite a problem!
