Petites Length is too long

I have recently lost weight, I am 5 feet tall, and just bought some size 12 petite pants, thing is they are all too long, I would spend s fortune in alterations, any suggestions, Loft is my go to store these days. I am looking for something better than jeans, many thanks

I'm 5'1' and can wear a 28" inseam. Or sometimes I will wear either an inseam between 25" or 27" as long as they are a slim cut. They all can work depending on the shoe and still look like long pants.

Inseam is one of the first things that I check when looking at measurements.

I'm petite & find some petite lengths too long as well. Sometimes, I can do a longer length in bootcut pants,if I wear heels.

Ankle length pants or casual pants with a knit cuff are my goto full length ( 28" inseam).

Inseam is one of the first things that I check when looking at measurements.

@haddon9 I agree... inseam is the first thing I look at too. I'm 5' 2"...and I prefer a 28" inseam because I always have a little wedge heel height to consider. But..I can go with a shorter length...I also prefer slim cut pants....especially with boots .

I am 5'1 and have a 26" rise. I have a long body and short legs. The only thing I can tell you is that I buy Marla Wynne from HSN. I can only wear her ankle pants which come to my feet. They fit beautifully. I also buy Lands End Petite Short. I don't ever have to shorten either one.

Loft petite ankle pants have a inseam of about 26". Very different from their regular petite ones.

Search for petite ankle. Should be a good fit.

Typically petite is 5'4" and under although I've also seen 5'6" mentioned so I guess it depends on the designer. However, there could be several inseam requirements for someone 5'4" depending on if the person has long legs and a short body or vice versa. Plus, just the difference between someone 5'4" and someone 5'2" or 5' is going to mean not everyone will be able to wear any given pair of pants even if they all wore the same size.

Another issue is whether the brand is selling a true petite which means a shorter rise or a regular sized pant and just offer it in a shorter length. For a regular sized pant labeled as a petite, I'll need a shorter inseam than an actual petite pant unless I can have the rise shortened which will cost more but would be my preference since I hate a low-hanging crotch.

I'm 5' 4" and I'm sick and tired of having to hem 28+ inch pants. So much so that I won't buy more.

Well, you have good suggestions here, but one thing to keep in mind is that all mass market clothing goes on "average sizes", sometimes with a smidge more material because much of it needs to be altered.

Some women will just wear those items as-is and some get minor alternations on just about everything.

I have a friend who is about as "average" as you can get. She's 5'5" and a perfect size 12. In spite of that, EVERYTHING she buys goes straight to her tailor for little tweaks.

Of course, you might consider taking a sewing class and learn how to do minor alternations yourself.

I know how to sew, I have arthritis in my fingers and using a needle and thread is very difficult for me, I even know how to use a sewing machine, in college I made most of my clothes

Someone on another thread suggested dropping the "petite" language and calling pants/jeans/etc. "short" and I agree. Still have to look at the measurements on-line, however, it does seem to fit this issue better.

I'm just under 5' 5", and feel like I fall in between everything in length. Sure is confusing no matter what.

@Icegoddess You are right. I am 5' and wear a 25/26" inseam in straight leg pants and 28" in boot cut. I must have longer legs. Summer pants are easier since some crops in regular are full length on me. The Q doesn't seem to offer true petites, but that works for me, guess I'm lucky.

That is a good point because that adds fo the cost of pants. I know when I got mine altered it was $15.00 to $20.00. I am only 5'1" so 28 or above is too long.

That's why I always check the inseam meansurements wherever I shop for pants. I am 5'2" and wear a 27 - 28 inseam. It just depends on the exact pant. I agree with other posters that a short inseam is different from a "petite" pant (or should be).

I think this relates back to our discussions about why it is or isn't helpful to see pants on the models. How your body is proportioned is key to the issue of fit and "size".

When I would buy clothes for my mother I was always impressed with Alfred Dunner. I appreciated that they distinguished the difference in petite and short lengths. Their pants come in short and average lengths, and their petites also come in short or average lengths.

I'm 5'5" ... long torso / shorter inseam / shorter rise.

Occasionally petite length pants area perfect fit. I almost always have to shorten regular length.

I'm only 5'1" but I have a short torso and long legs, petites are way too short for me. They look like high waters on me.
