my DH and I just returned from a month long vacation and we went to cities such as Rome, Florence, Milan, Naples, Venice. The thing that stood out to me was that Italian women do wear skinny jeans but with a fitted tunic, jackets, and we saw a lot of riding type boots that are flat. Our tour guide told one woman that they wouldn't be caught dead in polyester and only wear heels when going to a club or dinner. They were wearing mostly black, greys and some whites. They don't wear a lot of jewelry either. Since they walk a lot along cobblestones , flats also are seen a lot. The only bright color I saw an Italian woman wearing was a muted peachy colored t shirt. I spent a lot of time talking to them about what trends they like and I gather skinny jeans are going to be around awhile.

Thank you, LoveShelties, this is also why I look at fashion magazines. It is interesting to hear what is going on in the fashion world around the world. Although, I admit it is not a sales tactic I constantly want to hear on the jewelry shows. I love to look at and see what other women wear and how they wear it!

Sounds like a great trip!! Will be visiting Rome and Naples later this year, but on a cruise so limited time there. Thanks for your comments, but I love color!! LOL. And nobody wants to see me in skinny jeans. What I do remember from my last trip to Europe was all the MEN in skinny pants. Guy in a suit riding a scooter with tight pants - and he was maybe mid 30's. We should probably be happy that's one trend that hopefully won't come to our offices!!

Hope you had a great trip. Thanks for taking the time to share the info with us. While we all wear what we want, it's very interesting to understand what is popular in other cities, especially those with a high fashion reputation. Thanks again.

Well, if I decide to move to Rome, I'll know how to dress...lol Skinny jeans have been around for about 10 years now, it's a fact, they are here to stay. That doesn't mean everyone has to wear them, I don't. I haven't been to Italy in quite some time but I'm pretty sure the women there are wearing their fair share of polyester....and host of other modern fabrics. Italy isn't off planet. Synthetic fabrics are a fact of life. Even the name designers who charge megabucks for their designs use synthetics.

I think that Milan has probably the most well-dressed women and Rome has the most well-dressed men. We were traveling alone - not with a touring group - stayed at small locally owned hotels where most of the other guests were Europeans.

For me - the most striking difference is in men's attire. I didn't see any sloppily dressed men during my entire trip.
