Somebody Please Help me Understand

I'm watching Laurie Felt showing her faded jeans A-518631. Please help me understand why anyone would pay almost $80 reg price or any high price from any designer for jeans that look like they have been worn so much that they are faded in the thighs and behind ? Why is it stylish to look like you have had the jeans so long and they have been washed over and over again so much that they have faded and should be pitched ?. I love the dark washed jeans, they look clean and fashionable to me. I know it's JMO, maybe I'm just an old fuddy dud ! Times have surely changed. I'm a 60's teenager !

No harm meant to those who love the style, I just don't get it

The worn look is just another fad, in my opinion. The designers have to keep coming up with something different, so now we have faded, whiskered, frayed, ... I'm with you on the look and do prefer jeans that look new, whether they're light, medium or dark.

I prefer a dark wash in jeans and I don't care for the already worn look. I only saw the very end of the show and they were talking about calling Skinny jeans ankle jeans because it's about the ankle opening? No, there's more to Skinny jeans than the ankle opening. They're meant to be tight all the way down. If it were just about the ankle opening, then a tapered jean could also be considered a Skinny jean.

Back in the 60's and 70's, young people used to wear their bell bottom jeans long, and liked having the bottoms become all frayed and distressed looking. It was a cool, anti-establishment, youthful style.

Kids today are the same. They love the fading, the rips, the tears, etc. Who wants to dress like their mother or grandmother in neat, dark-washed jeans?

By the way, I prefer IM 24/7 pants over jeans any day--stretchy and pretty!

P.S. When I was a LOT younger my favorite jeans were leopard print denim skinny legs with zip up ankles.

I thought the word "skinny " was offensive to the women presenter in the studio. i.e.that it was an insult to some viewers.

Skinny jeans look spray painted on the woman wearing them. Not an insult, but usually, unless she's 16 years old and a size 4, they may not be flattering.

@Goodie2shoes "Help me understand". Just a matter of style, taste, and choice. Each of us has an opinion and the ability to exercise our choice. What is selected for one body type may not be for another, age appropriate can be considered, but in the end each of us does what we perceive will be attractive and appeals to us. "Understanding" means that each of us acts on our own perspective and can differ for many reasons.

I don't pay $80 for any jeans! My Mother used to say -- "why are these "kids" buying these jeans that are already worn out? They have holes all over them and I'm sure they cost a lot! In my day, when jeans had holes, they got patched if possible, and also meant that they were worn out and you didn't have enough money to buy new ones!"

I like the worn, soft jeans but the RIPS/holes?? The faux patches?? NOOOOOOO. And more colors, ENOUGH of indigo blue, dark blue, medium blue, light blue, wiskered blue, etc.

In the beginning I didn't "get" this trend. However it has grown on me. I bought a nice pair from a resale store and a friend distressed them for me. Super cute and I have a one of a kind pair. Not my daily go to jean but fun!

@ID2 Denim prices are very high , especially now, for a well fitting pair of jeans..designer or not. I do have older jeans w/ holes in the knees, but they're my "knock around" jeans. The ones I wear "out" are usually NYDJ which fit me great, but are $118 retail. Of course, I purchase these and other designer jeans at Nord. Rack or wherever I find a good sale price.

No one can see the inside label on jeans to know if they're designer or GAP. I purchase what fits and a style that looks well on me...skinny jeans and/or straight leg...no frayed hems and usually dark wash in winter and faded wash in warmer months.

I'd like to add that each woman has a brand, style, price point and wash that she prefers. This is not to be judged.

I used to buy jean patches to repair holes in the kiddos jeans.

The patches probably not offered anymore.

I loved the hip hugger bell bottoms in my youth 🫣

@SeaMaiden I laughed when I saw the picture you posted. I was in Quebec city recently and saw a lot of these worn by younger people, I'd say 20's and 30's. Jeans that were literally barely held together AND with big black clunky ankle boots, don't know the brand but I was like wow, I haven't seen this in the US but am wondering if the fad will catch on here. IMO, it really looked downright sloppy. It also gets very cold in that part of Canada, I wonder if they will wear thermals under them in the winter? I don't mind a jean with a bit of distress but if I am going to show that much leg I might as well be wearing a mini skirt! LOL!

Hey, one of my old pairs of jeans just ripped at the knee and I tossed them. If someone wants to come dig thru my trash dumpster to get them, go for it!

When any of my jeans get worn, I throw them away. I don't understand this sloppy trend either.
