Do (Or Would) You Buy A Colored Coat As A Basic?

Would you buy a coat in a color (or print for that matter) to wear on a daily basis? Do you consider the colors and prints of your clothes when you chose a basic coat?

@ECBG ABSOLUTELY ... what fun. Changes it up a bit. I wouldn't get a hot pink (and I love that color... I have a jacket in hot pinkj) as a basic, but I would definitely get a color.

@ECBG I currently own a red coat that I truly love. Red is a power color and I feel good when I put in on!

No, I buy black, brown, navy and sometimes beige or creme color. But in general I am not a coat person.

I have different color coats. I like changing it up and I do get alot of wear out of them living in NY

Yes, I have several colored coats as well as a leopard raincoat and a Southwestern print coat. On cold days the coat is all that is seen. Before COVID I dressed for shopping around my coat choice. Now that I stay isolated my coat choice is less important except for staying warm.

It depends on the coat. All of my dressier coats that I wear with skirts, dresses and nice pants are black.

I have casual coats that are in prints, plaid or other colors. I also have a couple of rain coats and one is a black, white and gray animal print.

I have a dusty aqua coat that I wear all the time. It seems to go with everything. I guess because it's a muted shade it almost works as a neutral. I only wear a cool tone clothing so that might be part of it

I have a fuchsia colored jacket that is my every day go to. I get compliments on it all of the time.

Even men that I don't know will comment on the pretty color.

I am a winter, so some of those jewel colors are my thing.

I mostly wear dark wash or black jeans so any color goes with my everyday clothing.

The last time I wore a coat was on an Alaskan cruise in 2006. I still have that coat. I think it's medium blue. I have no need for a coat in Arizona.

@ECBG I do consider the color & prints of my clothes before deciding which coat to wear. Most of my coats & jackets are "basic" colors like black, brown, olive, and navy. But, I do have jackets in millennial pink and dusty blue, and I have a printed raincoat.

Did I mention that I currently live in the hot desert? Lol.

I absolutely have considered and acquired coats in non-neutral colors that I consider 'basics'. Color does not have to mean special occasion for me. When I need a coat, the one I grab most often for casual wear is a red ski jacket.

I have 2 puffer coats--purple and green and a light gray puffer jacket. A red raincoat. I have never worn a black coat.. Looks like a shroud to me--LOL!!!

Years ago I ran across a beautiful, deep purple trench coat with zip.out lining. I bought it with some misgivings due to the color. Wore it for years and it seemed to blend with everything.

Sure, why not? I have a wine colored long winter coat, the only long coat I have. My raincoat is bright red (thanks Dennis Basso). I do have a black short wool coat, but I also have a green quilted one.

In design, black is known as "the absence" of color.

In wardrobes, black is the #1 neutral.

Yes, if there is a good coat in my color range I will buy it. A coat has to go with my outfit and be useful with my wardrobe. I am much more rigid about pant colors.
