Flare Jeans for Older Women?

I tried on some flare cut jeans the other day and they made me feel so good, and they looked terrific except for being a little too short - they were a regular and I'd need a long. I can get them longer through the store's website, but I'm struggling on if I should go through with it or not. Part of me feels that it might appear as though I'm trying too hard to stay looking young.

What do you think?

I saw the other night on the Q, someone had a pair of fringed flare jeans on. The model was an older woman and the brand rep was "pushing" these pants and to be honest, I thought they looked absolutely "stupid" on her.

Yours is not fringed and you did say they were too short, I just don't know.

I think that if you "try" not to look younger with clothes, you will appear younger overall and not be so self conscious.

On the opposite spectrum, you do look old when you wear pants that are twice to three times your size. When you were tops that just hang on you and are way too loose. My mom was a medium and she had me buy XL pants and large and XL tops. Then I realized she got a lot older.

If they look good on you, go for it. That's what will register with people. I lived through the flare stage the first time, in fact I was a men's buyer at the time. No one wore these short. They have to live with the model they have on hand at the time and depending on body type not all things look great on them. My pet peeve is the front tuck on models that have a larger tummy. Short flares come in second, there's no such thing as an ankle flare, or shouldn't be, anyway.

I won't wear flares at this point. When they got popular again in the mid-2000s i wore them all the time and my outfits looked nice.

I wore heeled shoes and boots then, i just feel they need a higher heel to look stylish. I had to get them hemmed by a tailor even with a heeled shoe.

My former boss wore flares with chunky flat loafers. She was in her 60s then and she just looked frumpy.

Go for it! I have every conceivable cut of jean, i.e, bootcut, skinny, slim straight, flare, etc.

I don't do distressed with the exception of a pair I picked up from Sundance but it's minimal (raw hem)

@JeanLouiseFinch You felt great, you liked the way they fit, if you can get the longer length go for it. Dress how you want, not what you think is age appropriate.

IMO, your first sentence answers your question, if they "made you feel so good and they looked terrific", get them in the longer length and enjoy feeling good in them!

I believe in wearing fashions that make you feel like that, not what anyone else may think.

@JeanLouiseFinch I have always felt that if you feel good in an outfit, you tend to exude confidence. This transfers to looking good to others.

In other words, go for the longs. Wear them in good health!

If they look good on you @JeanLouiseFinch , there is no really good reason not to buy a pair. I think age appropriate clothing has more to do with a 70 year old woman wearing a super mini skirt or a midriff top with jeans. A nice pair of pants? Why not?🌸🌹🌸

I say definitely get them. If you good good you will feel good too. It's exhausting to worry about what other people think of your life and clothing choices.

I am not a senior. Don't know how old you are, but if I saw an older woman looking great in a pair of flares I would love that.

My late Mom wore JLo bootcut jeans from Kohl's and she looked so good in them. She would usually pair them with a print button down shirt. Loved helping her pick out clothes. Miss that and everything about her so much.

For some almost unrelated reason, I just thought of blonde model Maria.

I haven't seen her in a couple of years, it seems.

She would look fabulous in slightly flares, imo.

NO, sick of skinny jeans all the time, flares are a change,

I love them for the winter with boots, just be sure they cover your shoes properly

put trying too hard out of yr head

Lol on the flare jeans question. If anything, I would think older people would wear them over younger people. Maybe because they are a throwback for us a bit older? I prefer straight leg slim but only because I feel they look better on me. Go with what you like!

If you felt like they looked good on you, go for it. There are different degrees of flare. I'm short, but love a bootcut jean. Taller people are able to carry off a flare better than shorter people unless you're all legs like @Andreatoo . Even at 5'2" I have an older pair of Victoria Secret dress pants that are flared and I love them. I do wear them with heels which helps.

Not sure I'm appropriately interpreting the relationship between the cut of a woman's pants and having something to do with her chronological age.

Is there a cut off? (Lol) Is a woman allowed to wear flare jeans until she's 47 1/2, and then at 47 years 7 months, has to stop?

I worry about these things.

@JeanLouiseFinch, I'm going to make a bet that, especially since you're tall and you want to, YOU SHOULD. I LOVE flared pants. Q
