"Shein" On? Placed My First Shein Order Last Night and It Shipped Today

I first heard of Shein last year -- a "fast fashion" online clothing seller that aims at underpaid women in their 20s around the world. It reportedly adds 1,000 new items to its website every day.

I needed some new pj's, a category of clothing I'm willing to take risks with. As I browsed through page after page of sleepwear, it became clear that the lowest clearance prices were found on the items I liked the most, which made sense because I'm in my 70s, a long way from 25.

Natural fiber clothing was rare, but that's true almost everywhere. My total purchase of two pj's and two nightgowns came to $28 with free shipping. They shipped today from a warehouse in California.

Never too old to try something new. What experience with Shein can you report?

Sorry but my experience with Shein was not good. First they ship from overseas to their warehouse in Calif. All products are imported from asian countries. The shipping time is over 3 weeks. Second, there is no real customer service to get ahold of if you are having a issue with your order. Last thing I ordered they shipped me all items the wrong size, I could not get a response for weeks. Then finally they said I had to ship them all back on my dime when it was their fault they shipped the completely wrong size. I said I would return them only if they sent me a shipping label. No response. I ended up filing a claim with the BBB and took awhile but they refunded my money but they never responded to me only to the BBB. I ended up donating the items. Never again with Shein. The clothing is cheaply made and the photos fool you. HTH

I've never read a positive review about Shein. It is one of those many companies that steals pictures of merchandise from legitimate retailers. They tell you your merchandise is shipped from a CA warehouse. They neglect to tell you it ships from CA AFTER it arrives to warehouse from overseas.

It's cheap enough that if you're willing to take a loss you can give it a try. The fit is all over the place, and the fabric smells very chemically and often doesn't look like the photos. PJs are probably a safer bet to start with if you're not particularly about the feel of the fabric when you sleep. I hope you love them though! Fingers crossed and let's us know. Maybe they've improved since I tried them.

I have seen a lot of clothes from Shein at the thrift store. The clothes are cheaply made.

I think you should of asked the knowledgeable forum members before you placed your order.

It's like some of the clothing lines on Zulily, most of them ship from China and good luck on the sizing. I ordered a xxL Sweatshirt because I wanted it roomy and the bust was 34" no kidding. I think it was a XXL for a child. The pictures look great but what you get is 2 different things unless you are aware of the brands sizing.

Oh my! The tracker just opened and is showing my package being disinfected and sterilized at the International Warehouse somewhere in this world.

Scheduled for delivery by USPS Sept. 11.

@PickyPicky3 I get cotton "nightgowns" (t-shirts - I like) from Amazon for $11-$15, free S&H with prime. With Amazon, the tricky thing is they may group a bunch of nighgowns in one item, and the material the item is made of will vary with the selection of the design. Same may be true of the sizing. So I search for what I want to buy, once I identify it, double check the material and size chart before purchasing. Size is usally 2 or 3 bigger than QVC. I have not been disappointed once in the nighgown department. Delivery is by the promised date, and returns, which I have made rarely in non-pajama items, are easy and no cost at Whole Foods or UPS.

Never heard of Shein.

@PickyPicky3 I've been burned purchasing one lower price sweater (not Shein) from Amazon. I now purchase only name brand clothing and/or house hold items.

I also purchase many art supplies from Amazon, but also stay with familiar brands.

Many inexpensive items are difficult to find a contact person and make returns.

Even if I had read all your comments first, I still would have placed an order because I like trying out new things.

Over these past few days I have read articles about Shein and am fascinated with its story. Shein's sales figures are unbelievable. The company founder had no interest in fashion but just wanted to experiment with SEO (search engine optimization) models. Aside from the shipping, the goal is fast, fast turnover and constant new items. Nothing should sit in the warehouse, so prices are quickly lowered to the point of disposable clothing.

There are many ethical issues here that make for great discussions, but for the moment I'll just report on my experience. If you're interested in the development of new business models, Google "Shein" and enjoy learning about this phenomenon.

@PickyPicky3 my daughter buys from them all the time. She loves them...not only gets clothes but oddball things like sequin masks, nightlights, accessories, etc. Some of the stuff is pretty quirky. Yes it's cheap junk, but a lot of the stuff you buy in stores is cheap junk too.
