Skinny jeans are the new "mom jeans"?

So I'm learning that at my ripe old age of 40, I'm now old fashioned because I wear skinny jeans a lot. Many of the youngin's are now into the baggier, wider legged jeans and think people who wear skinny jeans (and have side parts) are old. What say you? Do you wear jeans? Skinny? Bootcut? Flares? Baggy?

I just turned 66 and have been wearing jeans my entire life. Right now my jean wardrobe consists of skinny, straight, boot cut, boyfriend and one pair of wide legs. Now, more than anytime I can remember, anything goes. Of course we're going to be told that such and such a style makes us look like we're out of the loop. That is how fashion goes. We have to keep spending our money. Unless you are a model, fashion influencer, or someone who absolutely has to be on top of the latest trend, wear what you like. If a certain style is still being sold, it's still current.

While I wear jeans of all kinds I don't like baggy legs and prefer a tapered look, and to be perfectly blunt, I wear what I want when I want and don't give a rat's backside how people I couldn't care less about choose to peg me...

Iwear a slender, tapered leg because that's what looks best on me. I don't need the added width of a wide leg pant. Guess I'll just have to be an old fogy.

I'm old enough to remember the first incarnation of wide leg jeans. They're all I wore in the 1970s. My rule of thumb is if I wore it before, I won't go back there again 40 years later.

When it is too cold for shorts, I am usually wearing jeans. They are my uniform.

I don't wear skinny jeans, because I am not skinny. I really don't care for how they look on most men or women, to be honest. They don't flatter most body types.

Most of my jeans have straight legs...not tight and not wide. They look best on my short body type. I have hips and junk in my trunk with a small waist. I have some bootcut too.

My 16 year old granddaughter was here today. She was wearing red plaid pants.

I kinda laughed in surprise and she said these were new and everyone at her school wears them.

Alrighty then. I was happy to see there were no holes and her knees were covered.

I do wear skinny jeans and jeggings. I can't follow trends when it comes to certain things. And I've kind of been that way since I graduated high school.

I think tends are great but don't bow down to them. if you like something & want to incorporate into your outfit. Good for you. I think anyone, at any age, can do some version of a trend. That's fashion and style. Right?

However, I have to wear what I think looks best for my body shape. Wide leg jeans or boyfriend jeans or big flares make me look super frumpy. So I will be wearing mom jeans. Even if, my idea of mom jeans are high waisted, pleated, stone or acid washed jeans. lol

And you know... God Bless these judgmental kids, calling things out of style. When in reality-- if you've been around the block a time or two, you know. Some things never really go out of style. And some just move to the back of the closet for awhile.

What's nice about fashion now-a-days, we can wear just about any type of jeans, leggings, pants, whatever we like.

Wide, narrow, skinny, straight, crops, capris, ankle, full length, and whatever else, etc.

Everything seems to be 'in'.

Which is nice, imo.

I was in a very populated mall today in New York. The young women for the most part were not wearing jeans. Most were wearing leggings. I walked through Neiman Marcus to get to the car and I did see women probably in their 40's or 50's in dress pants with a blazer. I saw jeans when I walked through the food court, though. Mostly on older women and I didn't see any skinny jeans.

Personally, I love skinny jeans and they are the only jeans I wear. Baggy pants look ridiculous on my small frame. I may be tall but slim leg pants have always looked better on me than anything wide legged. Beside, I really think they hide a woman's legs and if they are good, why wear a lot of fabric covering them up...

I have worn most style of jeans from 501's through bell bottoms, boot cut and straight legs but drew the line at skinny and leggings. IMO I aged out, not grew out but don't feel comfortable in them. Jeans are my uniform and have lots of different washes in boot cut and straight leg.

I will never wear wide leg or flare crop pants or the tulip ones they are showing tonight.

They say that's all the rage now. Not for me.

I wear skinny jeans, leggings and joggers. Maybe a bootcut once in awhile.

I don't care what other people think.

I wear what I want ~ when I want. I have not been buying much in the way of clothing since Covid. I have so much clothing, though I don't own a lot of jeans. I was going to purchase jeans from this website, but became concerned about sizing so decided against it (they would have been skinny jeans).

I have all styles of jeans in my wardrobe. What's important is fit and when it comes to denim, density. No knits! I don't want painted on showing every lump and bump

When I stop and pay attention to what people are wearing around me leggings are the predominant bottoms! Jeans and capris make an appearance but I hardly ever see joggers

Well, at the ripe old age of 72, I feel if I wear what "all the kid are wearing" would make me look like I'm trying to be a kid again. I'm not. I wear what I like and what looks good on me -- skinny, tapered, and straight-leg jeans look good on my little body. I don't wear "relaxed" jeans because I don't have a "relaxed" body. No flares, no baggy, no wide legs for me. Oh, and no rips, tears, or frayed hems either.

I quit wearing skinny jeans a couple years ago because I just did not feel comfortable in them! I don't count this last year when considering fashion choices because it's just been a zero year as far as that goes --- at least for me! Generally speaking these days, I prefer straight leg or a slight boot cut. When I have been out, which isn't often, I see primarily people wearing leggings or athletic looking type yoga pants. Hardly ever jeans. Skinny jeans are mom jeans? Didn't know that. I remember when mom jeans were jeans that were highwaisted basic, kind of no real fit, no style, elastic waist maybe jeans. Now, I see jeans advertised all over that say -- high waist and super high waist -- as though these are the new in thing! Wear whatever you like and suits you, is what I say!

i love my jeans. they are my wardrobe staple during our very short winters. i have a couple of pairs of dress pants, which i keep on hand just in case. mostly, though, my long pants are jeans. i used to have a couple of pair of skinny jeans that were so comfy, but i decided that i didn't like how they looked on me, so now my jean wardrobe consists of plain old high waisted straight leg, mom jeans. never have had a pair of leggings on me. i imagine they are super comfy, but they would look hideous on me. i just feel like they look better on tiny women, and i am a 12/14 pant.

I really like comfy, looser but well-fitting, tapered jeans. Skinnys are good for walking outside when it's cold.

It's just me, and I really don't care what the kids are wearing.

I think my daughter always thought of me as wearing "Mom's jeans."

I think Mom jeans used to be the ones that came up to the waist, well now that's THE style. I can't wear them...no waist...more of a rectangular shape. I'd have to go up a few sizes to accommodate my waist and then proportions off in hips. I stay with skinny or straight leg jeans hitting slightly below the waist. I do wear boyfriend/girlfriend jeans...the loose fit is comfortable for just hanging around.

In warmer months, I've ditched capris and cropped pants that hit me in an awkard, not flattering part of my leg. I just roll up my jeans one cuff to make them a bit shorter than ankle length. I do have lighter weight ones for summer.

Leggings and jeggings and joggers in public...never.

I've always dressed much younger than my age and if anyone ever calls me out for it, I just smile. It's difficult finding clothing that fits well, especially jeans and then putting together a "look" when you're petite. Live and let live.
