SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRI. JAN. 1)

Greetings, shopping friends. I slept the New Year in. This morning, I found the "stimulus" had arrived overnight. I checked my Easy Pays and paid some of them off--an unofficial resolution.

In this time of doom and gloom and uncertainty about what lies ahead, I often find a little humor helps. The New Year brings with it the typical resolutions, but hopefully this will bring a smile to your face:

Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese And the way I'd never said, 'No thank you, please.'

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt And prepared once again to do battle with dirt - I said to myself, as I only can 'You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!'

So - away with the last of the sour cream dip, Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished 'Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie - not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie, I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.

Jean I also find that humor gets me through something more often than not. I posted this on one of the threads that I started this morning.

As Rabbi Sacks said: "Optimism is the belief that things are going to get better. Hope is the belief that we can make things better".

Good Morning and thanks for getting us started, Jean. Glad your stimulus check arrived, and you were able to pay off those easy pays.

I saw on FB that Kathleen is going on a three month "shopping ban" for things like clothes and other luxuries. Sounds like a good idea to me, and I hope to extend my clothes shopping restraint even longer. If I do buy clothing (other than real "needs"), I will need to get rid of at least three items from my closet to keep things under control.

Fortunately, the TSV isn't calling my name -- cute, but definitely not needed. I hope any of you who order like it very much.

After giving it a lot of thought, I decided to have a glass of champagne last night since I have had a bottle taking up space in the refrigerator for at least five years. And, I enjoyed it. I may have another glass today, but I think I will probably pitch the rest. While I didn't make it up to midnight Arizona time, I did watch the "ball drop" in New York. Thanking God that I made it through a very difficult year, and praying that 2021 will be much better.

Cute story you posted, Jean. Despite eating some extra holiday goodies, I still weigh less than I would like, but I know many have a problem with weight gain over the holidays. Good luck to any who are attempting to lose weight.

It is extremely quiet here, and I have decided to take down the rest of my decorations. I have already started some cleaning and re-arranging.

Jean and Bird Mama, thanks for the cute sayings. I am so praying for a better 2021. It won't take much to make me happy ☺☺☺. Never will I take things for granted again.

Linda L, I am glad that you enjoyed the glass of champagne.

We had a fun NYE. Our carry out dinner from our favorite Italian restaurant was very good. We started to watch That's Entertainment at 7:00 & loved every minute of it. At midnight we took our peach wine coolers into the hot tub. It was a fabulous 1/2 hour. Then we watched the rest of That's Entertainment. It went off at 2:00 a.m. & we went to bed. Slept like a log & got up at 8:00. I am sure that it will catch up with us in a day or two.

I am going to take down the Christmas decorations after lunch. No big plans for the weekend.

I get my next infusion on Monday and hope to be the Energizer 🐇🐇🐇 again real soon. The weather should be good for my DH as he can't come in with me. I am hoping that things change when I get my next infusion.

It's lunch time & then hot tub time. No wine 🍷🍷🍷!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Fingers crossed for an improved year now that we have vaccines and tests. I will still remain extra cautious.

KomKat--I loved the poem. It may me laugh. My added pounds came from ice cream. I now know why my grandmother would never own a scale. LOL

BirdMama---Good advice for 2021. We should still be cautious but optomistic.

LindaLatte--Congrats on your weight loss. I'm amazed that I put on weight considering what little I can eat and process normally. Now that's just not right. ha ha!!! I hope to get back on track this week. I saw that new food delivery service "Fresh" something. I'm just not sure about food delivery while the virus is still active.

Twinny--Your evening sounded very enjoyable and relaxing. The perfect NewYear's Eve in my book.

We had a very long night in our house. The hubby had to work straight thru his day into the wee hours of the morning to fix billing problems for a major hospital chain. The tv cable went out so I just had my old phone that can't handle too many items to view. Needless to say that we are bunch of zombies today. It's been raining and sleeting all day. I figure that everything can wait until tomorrow. I'll be happy with just making dinner and watching tv.

The TSV didn't call my name. I liked the style and the hood but not the lining. I don't need another hoodie but I do get my wear from them. I don't need any clothes and I like the approach that others have mentioned about one day/one item at a time to say "no". I could see the difference on my credit card and was pleased. The A/C and range was a big surprise for us which served as a reminder of how things can happen so quickly. Next is the water heater for first quarter of the new year. Exciting...LOL

Resolutions are designed to be broken by most. My last order was on Dec. 19. I plan to make it to Jan. 31 without a QVC purchase. That is the plan unless something I really could use materialiizes. I know I don't need clothing, handbags or shoes so it would have to be a home or health related.temptation.and need.
