O/T My sister sent me this list of "senior" discounts for age 50 and over.

Thought these discounts might be useful to some of you, especially those of us still teaching and having lunch out on teacher work days; they're in every area. Enjoy!

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day.

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.

This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .

This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

The one regarding Dunkin Donuts has been posted on many sites but is an error. Dunkin Donuts Corp. says that because their stores are independently owned franchises there is no policy regarding free or discounted coffee for people 55+. Individual stores may offer some sort of discount deal so inquire when you're there.

Is this for real? Can hardly believe Kmart would give you 40% off on Weds. I could have went there yesterday instead of today & saved $24. LOL!!! Next time I go to Fl. I will be looking for the newer Best Western's to see if we can get the 40% off. Not old enough for the other hotels.

I think the lesson here is to ask about a discount anywhere you shop but don't count on this list being correct. Because the Dunkin Donut one is an error, I just googled the KMart 40% off on Wednesday and the KMart site says they have no such program. Someone had asked them about it because they read it on Facebook. There's a lot of misinformation online.

I think you have to read the fine print. I do know that Banana Republic and Dress Barn Outlet stores offer a small senior discount on Tuesdays only. I seriously doubt that the retail stores offer it every day.

The Kohl's discount is 15% off every Wednesday for seniors (anyone 60 years and older). You show a drivers license or other age ID. That one's been around for a long time.

I think the point is that there are senior discounts, but don't assume, be sure to ask.

Just try to get a "Golden Apple" card at Applebee's. I got one at our local restaurant and when I tried to use it out of the area, it was such an oddity that the employees passed it around. I imagine that's because most Applebee's are franchises. The store where I got it was a training, company-owned store.

I feel like I should answer this because my DH and I are obviously into our Sr. years and yet we have never asked for a discount. Should we do it at every place we dine and shop? Why not? My real question is...when we are dining and the wait staff knows we are seniors should they tell us or are they waiting for us to ask them? I think I answered my own question since we have never gotten a senior discount anywhere. By the way, 50 is way too young to ask for a discount. My kids are all around 50, over and under.

Otherwise, we've had to ask. I think people are afraid of giving offense if they inquire about your age. I definitely would ask at any place where I regularly do business. It can't hurt.

You are SO RIGHT about people taking offense if you inquire about their age. I one time made what I thought was an innocent comment about age (it was about being carded to prove you are 21 to buy alcohol). The woman looked older than I was ( at the time I was in my 50s). Well, she said how dare I make a comment about her age and who did I think I was, to assume anything about her age. She had a lot to say and she kept going on and on. So I learned my lesson NEVER EVER EVER mention anything about a woman's age.

Of course, I ask! I figure it covers the cost of tax and maybe more that has been added in. I saved $12 on Tuesday for the Senior day at Walgreens. 20% off Walgreens brand and 15% off all others.

I think young wait staff are afraid to ask if you qualify because of offending someone, so I do the asking.

Can someone explain how the Walgreens senior day works (do you have a card etc)?

Also, I shop Bealls and they now run their senior day every Tuesday vs. the first Tuesday of the month.

Fry's grocery store does give a 10% discount but in this area it is only on the first Wednesday of the month. Not every Monday as this list states.

OK and I've just got to ask. What is Massage Envy's Happy Ending????? I know what that means in seedier massage parlor parlance, but I don't think Massage Envy does that!!!!!! LOL!
