I never heard of Ramie. It's a natural vegetable fabric made from from the nettle plant. It's very similar to linen and is sold as linen in India. So I saw a Frame top that was made of 100% Ramie. I had to look it up. Not crazy over the top, but I'm learning more and more about natural fibers. Anyway it's cool and refreshing to wear in very hot climates

Ramie has been around for quite a while, although I haven't seen it used much lately.

I wore sweaters made from Ramie in the 80's. They always seemed to "grow" after washing. Was glad to see that material fade from recent years.

I had a pair of pants a long time ago that were Ramie and it did remind me of linen. And as I recall it wrinkled easily and I had to iron it after washing and drying. I decided after that experience that Ramie wasn’t for me. But maybe Ramie has evolved since then or there are different grades of Ramie so my experience might not be the way it is now.

I also had a few sweaters from ramie years ago, but they irritated my skin. Made me feel itchy & scratchy all over. Got rid of mine & avoid the fabric now.

@wilma, my memory of ramie is the same: annoyingly scratchy.

Years ramie or cotton/ramie sweaters were sold. They just seemed hard to dry and saggy. I think I tossed them all.

From what I can remember, ramie always shed all over whatever else was in the wash. Had one sweater: that was enough !

Ramie began being used in the 1980s because the US tightend quotas on cotton imports. Before it was used for apparel it was used for rope.

i had a few sweaters that were ramie/cotton blends, the cotton made no difference, anything made with ramie was like wearing a burlap bag,

surprised it is being used again, it disappeared from the market, no one i knew would touch it.
