Creating a Dressing Room

Is it something that you would like to have, like in a spare room, or do you prefer an enclosed closet with more hanging storage?

@lolakimono I actually did that in my spare bedroom. This house is lacking in closet and cabinet space. I also "created" a pantry in the kitchen. "Mine" doesn't look as professional, tho. Who cares? People think I'm kinda "eccentric" anyway..........(!!!)

I prefer a closet where I can close the door or doors and it looks neat. My closet space is organized but I prefer it behind closed doors.

@lolakimono This is similar to what my daughter wants to do with one of the bedrooms in my house.

I have way too many clothes. I've filled up all of the closets in the house.

When I broke my back my youngest daughter quit her job and has been here with me getting rid of things I no longer wear or use.

Two of my daughters have decided I need someone to come in once a week to clean my house.

I like the picture you posted. It gave me some ideas.

You always come up with the neatest pictures.

That is what I spent almost a month doing at my mom's house last summer. Every person we met while out and about said "oh, can she come to my house next?"

We "curated" a collection of truly meaningful items and cleared out the clutter.

It took a long time, but I know she is pleased with the changes.

Much better than just rolling carts but not nearly as costly and permanent as building closets. This may be an apartment, or they simply didn't want to put in closets permanently. There is storage but not nearly enough like a regular closet.

You're so lucky to have your dear daughter living with you, and your two other daughters who are very considerate to help your daughter by wanting a cleaning service to help her twice a week.

I could make all the space along the wall hanging space and put a large chest of drawers built in in the middle--the way most walk in closets have, and a small stool or petite chair rather then the ottoman.

That would make a lot more sensible space.

This closet system is visually very attractive, but highly impractical. Unless you had an almost monochromatic wardrobe and one handbag and one pair of shoes, because it is open, I could see where for some it would be impossible to keep neat and orderly.

But I do like it!!

I'm sure there's a name for this but I like to see everything. I don't like my things hidden behind doors & drawers. Which means I need creative storage, that doesn't look like storage. I like looking at my stuff plus if I can't see it, I forget about it.

Before DH passed, we planned to take a bedroom to incorporate into our master bedroom and have something like this with an expanded master bathroom.

I have a smalll jewelry armoir which I love but I display many of my pieces.

Thumbs up for me.

It's been a 'challenge'. My back is very painful. It's almost as bad as it was before the Dr cemented the vertebra. I can't stand for very long.

Getting more steroids put in my back in a week.

I wish I could do more to help both daughters, but I can't right now.

I tend to put stuff off. They are lighting a fire under me as far as saying what goes and what stays.

You are a good daughter. I know your mom really appreciates it.

What a great idea! Just imagine the fun taking an empty room, and designing your very own closet/dressing room. As much hanging space as you want, shoe area, drawers, shelbes, maybe some cubbies, large area for handbags etc. I could spend a fortune but you could do it within any budget. The door would close so no one else would see it but you. I can dream LOL

I don't use the closet space I have now ... so although not near as pretty, my closet is arranged similarly. I have a chair and a stool, not fancy at all, practical looking so I can put on shoes, hose, etc when needed. Almost all of my clothing is out/hanging except for underwear/socks & a few sweaters.

Since I have a one in - one out rule, my closet is not stuffed by any means. Since I'm getting close to retirement, I find I'm changing my buying habbits a lot. Less structured jackets and more knit items. And w/ the dang lock down since March ... mainly just leisure ware. Sigh.
