Wow! I watched a clip of a David Letterman with Cher as a guest and was amazed by her outfit.

Cher looked like she was wearing a style that I thought didn’t become popular until the 2000’s. This show was from the mid - late 1980’s. She wore what looked like black cropped leggings, a flowing white shirt similar to what we see from LOGO and many other lines, and flat shoes. I know Bob Makie designed her show costumes, wonder if he designed that outfit as well. I doubt it, but it’s definitely possible. If that’s the case he and she were way ahead in fashion!

I used to watch Letterman a lot back then and I can't get over how much he's changed! Of course we've all gotten older but that's how I mostly remember him.

As for Cher's outfit my daughter was a little girl then and I had a lot of outfits with leggings and long tops for her...but I can only remember children wearing them....I didn't have them...I probably wore "mom" jeans!

@this is my nic I didn't see the clip, but cropped leggings were super popular in the 1980s, with Madonna being a fashion icon in the classic Desperately Seeking Susan, a must see for 1980s fashion lovers, and in concert

Lycra/spandex was new then. Before that, we even wore this, usually under a skirt or long big top

I wore it all! (except the stripes)

The outfit Cher wore was very different than what are shown in these photos. I'd say these do look very 1980's!

Her outfit on the Letterman show could be worn today and look very stylish.

I definitely remember the stirrup pants!

Amazing how good she looked back then. She has really not done herself a lot of good by trying to maintain her youthful look into her 70s. Some things just don't need fixing. We need to just go with what nature intended us.

Cher was really cute on the clip. I'd forgotten how uncomfortable Letterman was around ppl, he'd be the last person you'd imagine interviewing ppl every night. His "hermit" mode he's in now is the real Letterman, I think.
