I like Jennifer L. Scott, @Shanus, online she's "The Daily Connoisseur", who practices a roughly 10 item wardrobe (give or take) per season. She's wise beyond her years and was greatly influenced by her stint in Paris, where I think she refined her system.

However, as much as I do pare down and donate my clothes on a regular basis, I couldn't do the restricted "capsule" thing.

What I do is more of a "uniform", like others here have described-- usually 3 pieces, in my case. I rotate things in and out of this basic look and it works well for me.

I think a restricted, 10 or 15 item thing works great for people who look good in neutral tops-- black, navy, white. Then they can have fewer tops. Jennifer has that coloring-- "high" contrast, but "low" color value-- very dark brunette, medium skin, dark eyes.

My coloring goes "bland" and washed out in neutral tops, ususally. I need soft, off/colors, like periwinkle, mint, cream, blush, French blue. Only then does my skin light up. So I do need a bit of variety (next to my face) and can't stick to that perfect, all-purpose navy cashmere sweater the fashion editors recommend!

I think I've decided, if you need more colors against your skin, you can definitely have a go-to uniform, but you might need a few more items than someone who (luckily) can rely more heavily on neutrals....

I'd say 80% of my wardrobe has been minimal since Jr. High. Dresses were always stand-alones. And, I wore many different colors. Minimal doesn't mean you have to limit palette. I limit colors (actually, anything near my face) now to cool only because many look awful on me now. Some colors were never great, but, I could carry them off when I was younger. Now, I stick to the ones that were always the best for me.

Also, I prefer quality over quantity. I don't wear fast fashion.

This would never work for me. Boring, boring. I love and wear color - all of them. I also like neutrals which to me are browns and greens. Black and white is mostly a no go to me unless mixed with red or a bright pink. I love picking out outfits and want a lot of choices. I have very little black or white.

I could not be happy wearing the same items multiple times in a short period of time. Yes, I have too many clothes, but I am a great purger and do it often. Sometimes daily as I'm going through closets to get dressed I'll try something "iffy" on and dispose of it immediately or if still not sure I may wear it that day and then decide if I want to keep or dispose of it (most often decide to dispose) Although I have alot of clothes,I am lucky in that I have alot of closet, shelf and drawer space and have a good organization system - pants by color in one closet, jackets in another, sweaters and tops by type and color and so on. Works great for me. I know what I have and where it is and have fun mixing and matching. I love getting dressed and also looking at my colorful closets!

The capsule wardrobes I've seen would be too limiting and rigid for me. I like lots of color. In fact, I need color (more so with age) to light up my pale natural coloring.

I am somewhat of a minimalist. I don't like having oceans of clothes. I keep my wardrobe slimmed down. I add a few things each season, and toss a few older ones.

I've limited the neutrals in my wardrobe, and that helps keep things simple. (If you don't wear black, you don't need black shoes, handbags, boots, jackets.)

My latest strategy is to remind myself that "one is enough." If I have the perfect pink sweater, why do I need more? If I have a favorite pair of athletic shoes, one pair is all I need. Once I've found the best of something, I tell myself "enough already!" This is easier said than done, but it's something for me to think about.

I read a magazine/self-help beauty and fashion edition of Vogue years ago...1974.... where it was suggested that women in Paris always streamlined their wardrobes. They didn't wear throw away clothing rather the best they could afford. They were known for having quality over quantity and I have dressed that way since. The entire concept appealed to me and it has served me well over the years.

My closet is a walk in but there isn't a lot in it. I limit shoes, handbags and clothing. I find it easier to get dressed that way and I constantly edit. You won't find dozens of scarves, accessories or t shirts rather a few things I absolutely love.

Works for me and it always has......
