Are you kidding me? I just saw this Dennis Basso faux leather embroidered moto jacket (A-343912) presented this morning in Leah Williams’ show.

Even down to the embroidery, it is almost the same jacket as Colleen Lopez’s jacket on HSN. I have Colleen’s jacket in black, and it really is fabulous (563-098). The major difference is Colleen’s jacket has a much edgier design overall, which I love. But there are just too many similarities to believe that either of them had an original design.

Dennis went on & on about how his jacket came straight from his runway. So, who stole from who?

I like Colleen’s better.It seems more stylish and less boxy.They are very similar..couldn’t say who sloe from who but there are differences.

I think Colleen mentions her designs are always inspired by what’s “in”. I also saw something similar from Dolce Gabanna.

Plus, faux leather has really come a long way. Colleen’s jacket is soft and has that substantial leather feeling at the same time. I get lots of compliments on it. I think all the colors are lovely.

Neither of them is likely to be the absolute original - the differences are in the details. A fashion historian can probably find a similar jacket from quite a while back.

Both of the jackets work depending on what the wearer needs. I like CL's version a bit better, but that doesn't matter because hers is too short and too narrow in the bust and down to work on my body. Dennis' is slightly more generous without being as boxy as many I've seen, but my body definitely needs that slight extra.

Colleen Lopez copied a Blank NYC jacket EXACTLY. This jacket was created by BNYC a few years ago. The below picture is the original BNYC jacket. And I hate wearing my original one since HSN did a cheap knock-off.

@ILTHInstead of "cheap knock-offs," perhaps you paid thru the nose for a jacket that could be easily reproduced as a great jacket for so much less money.

I wouldn't even had written this except for the cheap knock-off comment when you knew others liked, and bought the faux version.

These are shopping channel clothes and inexpensive at that. We aren't getting orginal designs. Why would you think that? Having said that, this style of moto jacket is absolutely everywhere, at various price points. No one has a lock on the design.

I found a red Quacker Factory top in Marshals a few years back. The QF tag was off and an off brand name sewn in and it was for 12.00

Yes @chrystaltree I know these are shopping channel fashions. It was the added boast by Dennis Basso that this jacket was straight from his runway designs -- as I stated in my post. The embroidery is nearly identical to all the other original and knock-off jackets. He should have left that sales pitch out of his presentation. That's what I found dicey.

Just an observation, but another example of very similar designs. It's getting to the point that if I like a Dennis Basso or Colleen Lopez jacket, I better check the other one to compare and see which one I like the best.

i do think they are similar in general style, but each has its own touches for sure. i can play that game where you "spot the differences" and come up with quite a few.

I like Dennis's better..I don't care for all the extras..(on the sleeves, etc) its too much, IMO~Colleen's is much less expensive though!!!

I don't think anyone is copying; they are "interpreting" how they see the look and creating a new design in that image.

I mean, come on, how many vendors have copied the CHANEL jacket design, the CHANEL quilted bag (both zipper and flap) and MANY other looks. That's what they do..they take something and recreate it but it's never truly original.

Most of Colleen's items aren't original designs. She buys the expensive version then does a knock-off of it. During her last show she did a knock-off of a Burberry sweater/shawl the original of which was $800.00. I'm sure she probably has the original.

I don't buy DB items but I too can attest to the fact that Colleen faux leather is amazing. I have 2 of her "edgy" moto faux leathers with the studs. I love them and you'd never know they were faux.

Colleen has even done versions of items that were identical to Vince Camuto items and both were in stock on HSN at the same time. I found that very odd.
