How Do You Store Scarves?

I absolutely love some of the beautiful color combinations and colors in scarves. It's almost impossible to find prints in clothing as pretty in scarves! I have quite a collection, all in my color palette.

Here is how I store them, on the laundry room door. I fold them in half and push the fold through about 6 inches.

I have a drawer dedicated to them (I'm a Buff girl). I love them, all 30 or so, and after I've worn one I let it air out over a chair or draped on the bed, and admire the artwork and colors before it goes back.

I have one other scarf, a traditional type, that looks like the prettiest of saris, that I loop on a rack in my closet. It's a beautiful decoration, there or around the neck or purse or whatever.

For fashion scarves I have a couple of those hangers with the holes in them. Keep those in a closet. Winter scarves I keep in hatboxes, a cedar chest, or on the hanger with my coat.

I bought a bunch "over the door shoe organizers" ... 24 pockets.

All the closets (and some doors) have organizers hanging. Four of them contain scarves. Smaller scarves fit two in a pocket.

Larger wrap-style scarves are folded in the box on the shelf in the closet.

I started buying scarves in 1970 and have never disposed of any .... I have lots and lots (and lots) of scarves.

I keep mine on those round circles they usually come on. Then I'll hang 2-4 on them depending on how they're made and hang them on a hall tree that's in one of the spare bedrooms. The ones that have the hook on the top I hang on the side of a 7' tall wicker cabinet I store linens in below.

An addendum ....

The shoe organizers are also handy for hats and gloves. I wear berets and knit hats in the winter and always misplacing them. The organizer hanging in the coat closet helps - if I put the hat and gloves in the pocket as soon as I take them off.

I love to wear scarves and I have 4 decorative boxes 15" by 8 or 9" and I just fold my scarves in them. They don't wrinkle and I just jumble through the boxes looking for the one I want. I store them by color palette so I know which box to look in. I often choose a different one than the one I was looking for.

For my heavier scarves that I wear coats I leave them on the hanger with the coat they go with. I also have an open container in my coat closet on the floor with heavy scarves for coats

I keep my scarves covered so they don't collect dust. They are folded in a plastic container under my bed.

I like most of them, especially the ladder. Just thinking that maybe use part of a roll of clear plastic sheeting to drape over the scarves hanging on the ladder. 3 ml thick.

All excellent ideas. Not overly crazy about the clothesline, although it is colorful! Especially if you are a scarf person.

A friend shared with me the idea of using storage boxes with plastic covers to keep the dust out. I can store under the bed or on the top shelf of my closet!

I have another idea:

One of those hanging canvas shoe or sweater columns. I don't know how to describe it.

They hang on a closet rod. All canvas or fabric. Sort of one column straight down of large fabric/canvas cubes.

I too buy storage boxes for scarves and jewelry. I put them under my bed. I have the oblong plastic storage boxes from WalMart. They are quite expensive but airtight which I like. They keep my jewelry from tarnishing and keep my scarves from getting odors from other items in the closet. They are clear hard plastic.

I don't think I have more than 10 scarves so I just store them folded in a bin I scent with unopened incense.

I have a drawer full of these, I use them for so many purposes. Last time I bought a dozen for 97cents at Walmart. I put a scarf on one, then just hang on a hanger on the back of my closet door. I also use them to hang my pots & pans. So easy to handle and they never fall.

When I find beautiful scarves, I buy them for future gifts. They are hung folded lengthwise over a flocked hanger: you can fit several on a hanger. No wrinkles this way.

For my own scarves, I mounted a man’s sliding tie rack to the wall for them. They stay neat and out of the way until I want one. You could mount another one further down the wall for shorter scarves.

Since I don’t wear hats but DH does, I have mounted 3M hooks on the inside wall of the coat closet. They are spaced to accommodate all his hats.

I have a long shelf dedicated to scarves. They’re on the same side as sweaters/tops/tees organized in stacks by color families. When I keep them near the tops I wear them with, not only do I remember to add them to the outfit, but right there to decide which one to wear.

Wool/cashmere scarves to wear w/ coats are folded in a clear plastic bin (a separate one for gloves) in the coat closet on the way out to garage.
