Pant Length Preferences

Stunned a few weeks ago when I turned on QVC and saw models with pants well above ankle- I would call Capri length- with ankle boots. Not to my liking. Also saw in European magazines. I have adjusted to ankle length when truly ankle length. Shoes are a big factor in total look. What are your preferences for fall/winter?

If I was still living back home in Ohio there would be no ankle pants for me in the winter. But since I now live in NC I can wear any length in the winter but I do wear the boot cut when its very cold.

I hate ankle length. I think they just look stupid. I remembered them being called high waters when I was a kid and when people would wear them they would be teased. I’m short and they just look wrong.

I am five feet tall, I take whatever I can get. LOL. I do like my pants to be longer rather than shorter. I wear suede boots so I have a total covered look. My shortness begs for me to look like I am streamlined from top to bottom.

@bonnielu Vertically challenged, too. I like long length pants/jeans, but also like the ankle length. They show off my snootiest/ankle boots. Jeans, I tend to wear skinnies either ankle length or if longer, wear them as is or rolled to be more casual.

Yes, longer length pants give a sleeker look, but I’ve always been a rule breaker. I also wear lg. jewelry when it’s recommended that petites wear smaller pieces.

I'm sure I heard one of the designers say that ankle pants were not going anywhere, they are going to be big this Winter.

Maybe they figure they are easy to tuck into boots?

I wear cuffed jeans in Winter that meet the top of a casual ankle boot. I like ankle length in jeans, leggings and I also have some casual pants. I wear with ballet flats or canvas skimmers/sporty shoes.

I like ankle length in nice weather, but when it is winter, I don't "get" ankle pants. I don't want a bare ankle when it is 10 degrees outside. I wear normal length pants, with trouser socks in the winter.

And don't even ask me about those "shooties" with the open toe. Really??!!

Just about time now, to start to wear socks again. It is about 50 degrees outside today.

I agree, I do not like the short/andle/rolled up cuffs with a bootie/shoetie where skin is showing at the ankle. I am barely over 5' and that chops my little legs off.

Also, I do not understand the look for fall/winter at all.

my favorite pants are straight leg covering my ankle but not so long they hang over my shoe (do not want to trip). I do shop ankle pants sometimes as I am short and they could be long pants on me and not need hemming!

@redwingsgal I roll them to the tops & little below to the top of ankle boot. No ankle/legs show. There’s never any way I’m going to appear 5’7”, so I just dress as I please. I’m not trying to fool anyone that I’m taller.

@Peaches McPhee I get your point. When it’s the dead of winter and I’ll be outside for any length of time, long pants/jeans. For running errands, in and out of car & strolling through the heated mall, ankle length is fine.

I don't like the look of ankle boots with skirts, dresses or shorter length pants.

As for ankle length pants, anything wider than a skinny jean looks like you're wearing high waters.

I am tall so ankle or pants that are short on me I just roll or cuff for warm weather and wear with different shoes for a nice casual look. In winter, shorter jeans still work (if they are closer fitting) because I can wear them tucked in my tall boots. This makes them more versatile in my wardrobe - they become year round.

Ankle length is a weird length for me. They just look too short. Therefore, awful. Either crop length or full length just look better on me. And, yes someone brought up what we used to call high waters, ankle length do look like that on me, at least that is exactly what I think whenever I tried a pair, kinda like they either shrank in length or I bought the wrong length and wore them anyhow.

Depends on your body - your height and your leg length taken into consideration. I have long legs, Some women pull the look off wonderfully, others no. I am a big no for this catagory of pant length for sure!

If it looks wrong or upsets anyone over 55, it's called "fashion" or what people (under 55) are wearing now. Keep that in mind! Being shocked, appalled or turned off dates you for sure!

Same here! You said exactly what I was going to. This seems to be my best look too. Have fun!

I notice more and more ankle pants by all the vendors... 28" . I really think that they do this as it is cheaper for them then doing say three different lengths.... say 28, 32 and 34. I only will purchase pants that offer 32" inseams.... or the shortest I will go is 31".

I love ankle pants with a smart sandal. I don't like ankle pants for winter. Bare skin doesn't look balanced with thick winter fabrics and fibers.

Ankle pants with boots reminds me of years past when I've seen pants that were bought too short and knocked around a white sock mid ankle with a flat shoe.
