Colors you can't wear anymore with age?

I am in my later 60's and have noticed in the last few years, dark colors (esp. black) does nothing for my looks. I love black and white, but have to have the white close to my face. I still have dark hair (beginning to mix with gray), and all that darkness isn't good for me. If I was blonde, or light gray/white, it might. How about you?

I can no longer wear gray, makes me look too washed out. I need some color. I just switched my eyeglass frames from navy blue (little too dark/harsh) to a medium aqua/turquoise color which looks better with my coloring and whitish hair.

I wore lots of brown's and rusts when I was blond. Now that I am snow white, no browns or beiges or mauve! Gray and black work!

I've found that too!

I used to love to wear black and had most of my clothes black, navy blue.

Now I think pretty and bright colors look better on me. Even white looks kind of harsh on me and I loved wearing that.

Yeah, I don't want to look like Morticia or a ghost and that seems to be what I think of with too many dark colors or stark white that just don't look as good as they used to on me.

I am a winter and have always worn crisp clear brighter colors. My hair used to be black..salt and pepper now, I have very light bright blue eyes and a pale complection.

I didn't have to change my colors as I aged.

i do know that the color black is not good for mature women. It highlights and creates dark shadows on the face.

I have never ever worn black near my face...it makes me look too pale and sickly. I do wear black on the bottom and black and white print items on the top.

I'm 63 and I have naturally very dark brown hair...it's almost black. My eyes are very dark brown and my skin is olive, sort of med tan. When I wear black it makes me look goth I think. Maybe that's just me but I usually stay away from all black tops. I can wear most any color, just not black from head to toe.

The color palette I could wear when young, I can wear now. I have always looked sick wearing anything near my face in mustard yellow, greens with lots of yellow, grey, and tan. Pastels, brights, jewel tones, red, navy, white, and black all work. I can wear orange too, strangely enough. The color of my blush and lipstick changes from nudes, range of pinks, to corals depending on the outfit, which I think is key for a cohesive look.

Pastels. I wore them when I was younger - like a sky blue, a sage green, a pink, or a peach...

I look best in deeper tones and also black. Black brings the pink out in my cheeks as opposed to washing me out as is the case of some people.

Pastels do absolutely nothing for me now.

As for yellow - OMG an awful color on me in any shade of it - from the lightest pale yellow to the deepest golden yellow .... just ewwwww .... that pretty much has been always been the case though with that one...

Pastels aren’t good for me either. I need deeper brighter colors but I can also wear black or white.

I'm a 'winter.' Pastels and grays near the face aren't flattering. Sad, I have some sky blue tops I love. Won't give up my black but generally try to do pop of color with shell, blouse or scarf near face. Deep purple and teal look better than ever. Even wear more rich, true green now.

I'm a "winter" and I can wear all of my colors.

It is said that we lose color in our face as we age. I don't ever forget blush!

I’m a neutral, can wear many colors, of course some better than others.

Just never cared for pastels, or tiny little prints, more clear mid tones, or brights. I still like and look OK in those.

Hope I will be observant enough to notice when that changes.

I rarely wear yellow, orange, or red (unless deep maroon). I've been that way most of my life and I love wearing white especially in my personal life tend towards black/taupe professionally. Colors I might be attracted to but rarely wear....light lavender, light blue. I've been this way for as long as I can remember, has nothing to do with age or how I look. Most of my wardrobe is white or black.

@chihuahuamom Wear the white (or your favorite light colors) next to your face sounds lovely, then ground it with the black you love in slacks, jacket, sweaters. Your confidence and comfort is important.

I could get away with a few dark colors, especially those away from my face, when I was younger. But with my coloring, black has never been that flattering, since I have that ultra fair complexion, with blue undertones. Palest brown/dirty blonde hair.

All-black definitely overwhelms me, exposes lines and shadows in my face. Can wear a tiny black pinstripe on a crisp blouse I have with ivory background, but that's about it!

Soft, low-contrast colors look good on me, esp. as I've gotten older. Mint, cream, French blue. They go along with my quiet subdued coloring.

But people with black hair and brunette hair, deeper skin tones, dramatic and high contrast coloring can look great in dark colors, and even black, much longer, I believe.

Just this morning ... I put on a bright red shirt and took it right off and put it in the donate bag. The darker reds look better on me now.

But - I put on a white shirt instead and a bright red windbreaker ... looked fine. Apparently, can't wear the bright red near my face.

I have a ton of black pants but not a single black top. I also don't wear any shade of gray, taupe or olive. I have silver hair, blue eyes and am very fair. I look best in bright, clear jewel tones; bright pink, purple, cobalt blue and my favorite, turquoise blue.

So far I have been lucky. My hair is now salt & pepper and I own mostly cool colors, blues, lavenders & grays. I also wear black and look good in white (blouse). I have not tried on anything that did not look good with my complexion and hair color. I recently purchased dark brown top and pants but i am sure it will work.
