Maternity Style Tops

Why are”maternity style tops” such a rage on QVC? They are long and wide!!! Not to mention than some of them have ruffles on the bottom to make them resemble tutu’s. Lol

Unles you are so underweight and paper thin you feel you must wear clothing to make you look 20 pounds or more heavier This is not a good look on anyone.

Many of us are over 50 and no one would ever think we are pregnant. Much too old.

@jewel3 ~~ Yes, but most of the tunic, flowy (full) tops make you look it, especially if you have an ample tummy! JMO, but in no way is this style flattering, but maybe on a younger, taller, slim person. I don't think a younger women would choose to wear this style, just too dowdy/frumpy.

That is very kind of you to say that we might look pregnant. It’s really just looking chubby and middle aged. But you are very kind. I do prefer fuller tops that skim my body, give me plenty of room to move, and don’t fit close. I feel like that looks best - maybe because I was a child in the late60s when granny dresses, butterfly dresses and peasant top were popular.

My daughter is a plus size lady and she wouldn’t be caught dead in tops like this. She says her hips are already large and she doesn’t need help from tent tops that go down to her knees. 😊. She dresses in classic clothing and looks great, she is very good at wearing jewelry and scarves or patterns that excentuate her beauty and downplays her flaws. We all have them.

I am not referring to a-line style tops that skim the hips, , but to those that actually look like the old time maternity tops. Sorry, in my opinion not a good look for anyone.

I wear lots of flowy boho style tops & fitted button front blouses too. Everyone has different taste so if you don't like flowy, don't buy...how's that a problem?

For the record, being a size 2 and petite and finding clothes that flatter and don’t overwhelm is not a bowl of cherries, either.

I’ve never understood the legging/gym pants craze. Women show their behinds and other “parts” in skin tight pants/jeans, but hide their top parts in oversized tunics.

Some women in the tight bottoms have obviously worked out, while others have never opened the gym’s front door. Everyone needs a full length mirror and an honest eye. If something doesn’t flatter, whether in trend or not, skip it. A loose top doesn’t fool anyone.

I can’t do loose tops because I look like someone put an XL top on an XS body. Yes, the even the size medium tops that are long are baggy are too oversized. I haven’t shopped for tops in 2 yrs. with much success.

I’m hoping the loose top trend will go away, but fear it could swing too much the other way and we’ll be faced w/ cropped to the waist tops. Then what?

If me, look at all the JR boyfriend shirts, the long, flowing LOGO w/ ruffled hems/lace around the butt, hips or for me, mid-thigh, Halston’s tees that flare from under the bust, IM’s tunic tops w/ peplums, etc. There are way too many to list item #s.

@Shanus oh sorry, I meant the OP. I think though you explained it. I guess I thought the style was a particular top, not so broad. I think I get the idea now. 😀

Well, I dont like skin tight fitting clothes that look like they have on their little sisters clothes or they shrank in the dryer. So guess we are all even and dont need anymore posts on this same ole, same ole tired thread.

@ImaoldhippieI agree, but this one’s titled maternity tops and then led to the tight bottoms that are needed to cover them up.
