Today was one of those days, I was itching and scratching from my clothes. I went home to change my underwear as the inside back crotch seam was poking me on the left side. Those serged raised seams are the culprit. Underwear with flatlocked crotch seams feel better to me so I went through my lingerie drawer and tossed out the offenders. (A quick fix though is to wear the scratchy piece inside out.)

I also find that jean leg seams on the outer leg also can scratch and cause itching. The seams don't always like flat because the seams are chain stitched and overlocked or serged and the bulk of the seam and the thick thread can poke you when you are walking if the seams turn from one side to the other and back again. The solution is to turn your jeans inside out and steam iron those seams flat in the direction that they are supposed to lay flat. You can tell which way the seam should go by looking at the top waistband as on 5 pocket jeans the outside leg seam will be topstiched from the waistband down to the bottom of the inside pocket bag so that area lays flat. The rest of the outside leg seam should lie in the same direction which is toward the back of the jeans.

For tags inside clothes - I cut them out as soon as I get them and if the fabric is scratchy - I add some washing soda to the detergent and wash to get rid of any sizing and soften the fabric.

Something that was really awful .... SG's butterknit turtleneck shirts. The color wasn't faced and she had this scratchy stretchy plastic tape to hold the ruching. Took me forever to cut it away with embroidery scssors.

I find that as I have gotten older, my skin which was already sensitive, has gotten extremely sensitive to seams, tags, and types of fabrics and I really have to be careful of what I buy and wear. Some items of clothing which i had had for a long time and never had a problem before, suddenly are unbearable to wear! If something makes me itch or feels scratchy on my skin, I immediately get rid of it. It's just not worth feeling uncomfortable all day!

I have very sensitive skin so fabrics and how things are made can be a deal breaker in an otherwise beautiful garment. When I try something on I can tell immediately if the fabric is going to bother me. I only get part of one arm through a sleeve and realize it’s not going to be comfortable so I don’t even bother to try it on completely.

Other than fabrics. tags on the side of tops drive me crazier than those at the neck. Sometimes a side zip pant has a tag or hook and eye digging at my skin. Yuck!

My pet peeve is the plastic "t" end of the price tag. They always seem to bury it in the intersection of the underarm seams where you can't even get to it and remove it. It always manages to stick out enough to hurt!

I also hate the Soma bikini underwear that has the plastic gummy strip inside the leg opening to help the panties stay in place. Have thrown away all of those out of frustration.
