SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME(WEDNESDAY, MAY 9)

Good morning, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny day and I am not working. I debated work outside versus work inside and "inside" won at this point. I don't have the energy or motivation for the outside work at this point.

I'm using the "love" concept of thinning out some things. My immediate reaction is dictating what is done with the item. In fact, I have applied that to the TSV sunglasses. Despite them being ok for me, I don't love them like I do the other Jonathan Paul sunglasses I have. I just knew I likely would not use them that often so I am sending them back. I did like the red color but the frame shape and slightly oversized look cancelled that out.

I did make a car appointment for of the same day I will be having my Echo on the 23rd. Since both are in the city, I try to schedule things to reduce time on the road.

I know many benefit from the convenience of several stores nearby from which to shop. For me, I have to travel over an hour one way with no guarantee that I will find what I like, or if I do it will be in my size. A day in the city with an appointment and grocery shopping wears me out by the time I get home so I don't do a lot of window shopping or actual shopping unless there is something in mind at a specific store. Online shopping is a definite convenience.

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Jean. I think you made the right decision on the sunglasses. I found myself trying to talk myself into keeping them despite the size issue when I realized that I would never be happy with them slipping down. I hate spending the money to return them, but it beats having something I know I really don't want to wear. Sorry you aren't working today, but I hope you get some things done that you want to do. Good planning on the combined car and medical appointments. I try to do the same, if possible. Not as much of an issue since I am retired, but.....

I used to have many stores near my house in Maryland, but not so many here. They are opening new stores which makes me happy, but ordering on-line can be very appealing since they don't always have the exact thing I want, and I get tired of driving around from store to store.

It is supposed to be hot again here today (100 degrees plus). I prefer hot to cold, so I'm not complaining as long as the AC holds out in the house and my car. They keep it too cold in DH's place (in my opinion), and I need to put on a sweatshirt jacket often. I know he doesn't like the cold at all. I may mention something to the director about this.

I had trouble sleeping last night -- combination of assorted pains and mind that would not shut down. I did read for a while around midnight, and managed to sleep until about 5:30. I needed to add salt to my water softener, so I started off my day with that -- the bags are heavy, and I need to put them in our wheelbarrow. There was a bird's nest (I think birds) with eggs under the wheelbarrow, and I hope my taking it away for a few minutes did not harm anything. We have tons of birds around here.

DD sent me a set of dinnerware for Mother's Day, and I spent a bunch of time deciding on what to donate so the new dishes would fit in the cabinet. Yikes! I have a large bot ready to donate to the local thrift shop.

DH was a bit more awake yesterday, but not smiling too much. He also didn't eat much more than half of his dinner. Hope he is better today. After I visit him, I will go to the Post Office to return the sunglasses, and perhaps to the grocery for the new produce specials of the week.

Linda--I enjoy hot weather but 100+ is a bit too much but yours comes with lower humidity, I believe. Enjoy the DD's gift. I'm sure you will love it and it is motivation to clear some things out despite how much we might like them. I agree on the sunglasses; I considered keeping them because of the low cost but I knew they would not be used much.

I use frequent flier miles at times and I am now trying to "thin the herd." I've always wanted to go back to Australia so I've been checking dates. The tricky things about frequent flier miles is that you might not always get the dates or flights you prefer unless you plan ahead and sometimes it is way ahead. Yesterday, I had dates in mind and checked the number of miles which was acceptable

Today, I checked again, and the number of miles for the outbound light remained the same but the miles for the return flight had doubled for the same dates. I changed the dates to one week later and got the ticket for the lowest amount of frequent flier miles.

Sometimes, you have to be flexible. This trip only involves one connection each way. It won't be long until award tickets are not available on this flight unless at extreme high amount, so the double connection each way will end up being the options. Later, the options will become even less desirable flight times and connections.

I have never had a problem using frequent flier miles but I plan ahead to get the best connections, times, etc. as the number of award tickets are limited on each flight.

Thanks for starting the thread Jean @KonaKat My sunglasses are out for delivery so I will know whether or not they are keepers by nightfall. It makes sense for you to return your pair since they aren't working for you.

Hi Linda @LindaLatte I have a few large shopping malls to the east and west of me, each less than 30 minutes away from me. Never did me much good from a clothing perspective because I need talls. I don't recall ever being much of an in person store browser. I remember liking to browse for clothing for my nieces when they were little. Other than that, I've always had a search and destroy type of shopping strategy. I go in with something particular in mind and when I find or don't find it, I leave.

I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. It's the pits when you are tired and can't get any shut eye.

I hope that your husband has a bigger appetite today and smiles at you a bit more. I know his smiles mean the world

Bernie--Let us know how the sunglasses work for you. I think Marijane also purchased them. So far, we haven't had a great success rate with them.

I'm feeling the lure of Kipling right now. For some reason, I didn't try the Cyrene bag when it was the TSV but now it is calling out to me. The reviews are definitely good.

I received both pair of sunglasses. I don't know how to describe it. I don't think it's the size as much as the shape that's not working for me.

These are the solar shields, which I can get for $21 at Meijer's and are starting to look good

Since I'm also in the market for new glasses and have been researching different styles, these look more pillow shaped and the transition from frame to arm is more rounded or smooth.

In an effort to get close colorwise, I took a picture of the TSV in tortoise.

The frame juts out more where it connects to the arm. You wouldn't think a slight change in design could make a pair of sunglasses look so big on my face.

In summary, glad both pair were shipped in a box. Also glad it will only cost me one return fee to send them both back tomorrow either before I get my oil changed or after.

The tortoise was an attractive color and the purple was flat out to die for.

Bernie--I think you nailed it with the frame style. They didn't bother me that much until I looked in the mirror. I just didn't like the frames on me. I may go back and get the tortoise in the version I listed yesterday.

I ordered that Kipling Cyrene bag in the bran color. I have a card that needed some activity to keep it active so I put it on that card.

@KonaKat I figured side by side (sort of) pictures would help me make my point. When I took the tortoise TSV out of the case and unwrapped it I said, wow these aren't big at all. The I put them on my face

Like an idiot, I don't why I thought the purple would be any different but I tried those on next.

I stood there wondering, what is it?

Then I grabbed the solar shields out of the car and say Ahhhhhhh, I see it now.

Bernie--I also ordered the tortoise in F12666. I really like these sunglasses and have them in the size S, so I believe it was safe to order the same size again. The tortoise should go with the Kipling bag.
