I've never been a huge Target clothing fan. I've always thought the sizing was wonky and many of the clothing items were overpriced for this being a "mart" store although periodically they'd have some bargains. However, the few things I have bought from them have held up amazingly well. The clothing department has definitely been morphing into better stuff than they had years ago.

@Kachina624, I pretty much said the same thing in a thread last week about that LOGO TSV. It seems modal is the fabric of the day to tout as being high-end so now they can charge more for it.

This is just an fyi. I went to Target this weekend to buy light bulbs and thought I'd check to see if they had a plain black Tee-Shirt. I ended up buying one in black and one in white. They are 49% Modal/49%Cotton/2%Spandex and very soft. They weren't on sale and cost only $8 each or 3 for $20. They also had tanks in the same material and same price that were a little flared at the bottom. I was pleasantly surprised to see how the women's apparel department had been updated.

All of a sudden, everything everywhere contains modal which we're told is very pricey (yeah, right). There must have been a bumper crop or huge clearance sale in China.

Modal is a type of rayon, a semi-synthetic cellulose fiber made by spinning reconstituted cellulose, in this case often from beech trees. Modal is used alone or with other fibers (often cotton or spandex) in clothing and household items such as pajamas, underwear, bathrobes, towels, and bedsheets.

Modal is processed under different conditions to produce a fiber that is stronger and more stable when it is wet than standard rayon, yet has a soft feel, similar to cotton

When I was in Target earlier this spring, they were in the process of completely revamping the women's apparel department. I live on the west coast. They used to carry 100% cotton, and perhaps some of their items still are. However, I checked the label before I bought these tees because they were so soft and then rechecked them before I posted. In fact, the cotton portion is "pima cotton." Their website probably has them.

The only way to know what is the best deal for good quality in styles you like and sizes you need is to shop around. Sometimes a higher price is warranted because the item cleary is worth every dollar even factoring in retail markup. In other cases it's easy to see that you don't have to overpay for some things because the retailer tells you it's so good and/or so expensive to manufacture.

I just received a Macy's order today, one of the items was a navy Tommy Hilfiger t shirt that I got for 9 dollars and change. It's 95% rayon, 5% elastane.

I prefer rayon to cotton. Too often for me 100% cotton t shirts are wrinkly and boxy and bag out. I do like the cotton tees I have from Costco and Lands End. The rayon tees are perfect for layering under something. When I try to do that with a cotton tee it bunches up and it's just all kinds of wrong and annoying.
