very interesting article in the new york times about cameron silver (h by halston on qvc) and some of his contemporaries. their new mantras..... “It’s chic to repeat” and “The best new clothes are old clothes.”

as you grow older, are you trying to embrace this with your clothing? i know i TRY, but not doing as well as i should be. some i sell, some i give to charity.

I don't understand the point they are trying to make. It's the "in thing" to sell off your expensive designer clothing? Why?I'm sure these wealthy people have huge closets full of clothes, and these sales don't even make a dent in them.

Interesting. Way back in the 1920's there was a group of poets from Vanderbilt University called the Fugitives (sometimes Agrarians) that devoted their passion to looking at the narcissism of the "new (industrial) age". It continues.

While I love to shop and buy new things I find that my favorite pieces and outfits are older classic items that never go out of style. With proper care things can last and be worn many times. Every time I do a closet purge, I end up keeping older favorites that I still enjoy wearing.
