I started the annual "turning of the hangers"

Finally we're wearing summer clothes in my area.

I have 4,152,691 tops.

So, to re-start something I started last year, I started turning the hangers yesterday. When I put the top I wore yesterday back in the closet last night, I turned the coat hanger around. I'll continue to do that till they're all turned around and then I'll start again.

I thought that having hangers in two directions would mess with my sense of order, but I had no problems with that last year. And it keeps me from reaching for the same few items over and over.

I only do this with my summer clothes. I have a lot fewer winter items and don't need to do it.

Anyone else do this?

Same here.

If I find that I'm not wearing something it's usually for a reason...I just don't like the way I feel or look in it. So I will remove it to give my closet more room for something that I do like instead.

Wish I had thought about this when I was working.

Now that I'm retired, I have fewer clothes/choices and don't really worry about it.

Despite several rounds of sorting, I still have too many things I don't wear!

Did you really count your tops and get that exact number?

When I worked, I had so many but they all looked the same! My school uniform (teaching teens math/science) was a turtleneck and Dream Jeanne’s! I could “grab and go” any day with my eyes closed! 😆

When I wear something, especially in the summer, it gets washed before it goes back in the closet.

My tee shirts and capris are folded in my dresser not in my closet, and being retired they are my daily uniform.Only my dressier items are hanging in the closet.However, living in Fl. I have both cool weather and warm weather clothing all out in the closet. No seasonal change out of the closet.

This sounds like a great idea for myself to get a grip on how I use my wardrobe. I have been trying to get more organized and glean what I use and what I just transfer from seasonal closet to current closet. I finally got all 'Joy' hangers (HSN) and find them helpful as I can put more in a closet (?good or bad )

I hope you do not take offense , but I 'gotta' ask... is the number of tops you own a typing error or a joke !

@gidgetgh I have just about as many tops as you do, lol! Most of mine (except for several sweaters) are 3-4 season wear, so never get put away. Just because I'm rushed getting ready for work most mornings, I find myself reaching for whatever is closest. I try to do the "turning the hanger thing" though, and it does help.

After the 2nd wearing, a top usually goes in the wash. I work in an air-conditioned office, so things rarely get sweaty.

That's a great way to keep things circulating, but when I feel like wearing something, I feel like wearing it. I don't want it to be off limits.

I'm in the process of moving to an apartment and as I put my clothes in bins, I realize my summer clothes are far and few between especially when it comes to tops. I've also donated a lot of clothing that either no longer fit, or is not my style anymore, and the majority of it was summer tops. But I just do the regular put items in bins when the weather turns and it's going to stay consistent, which living in Maryland is a gamble because we're finally getting our warmer weather after a very cold start to spring, and I kept out my winter tops and sweaters. But I like having access to my clothes and if I want to wear something, it's there for me to grab.

@gidgetgh, whew ! good I thought maybe you live in a warehouse! When I am switching my seasonal items sometimes it seems like I have that many. One reason I am going to try your idea .

@okaywitheasypay- I got the idea from someone here last year, tried it and really liked it.

I veer off course sometimes. If I want to wear a specific top, I’m going to wear it, regardless of which way the hanger is facing. But this really makes me go through the rotation and wear each item and purge out some that just don’t work for me anymore.

I do that with my hangars except I do it so I know if I've worn something once. If the hangar is turned backwards then I know I've worn it once and if I wear it again, it goes in the laundry.

This /\ /\ /\ for me, too! Just because the hanger is turned around and I just wore it last week, doesn't mean I'm not going to wear it if I want to--even if there are tons of front-facing hangers!!!!!

@gidgetgh I turn my hangers, but for a different reason. When I wear something, I put it back w/ hanger turned same way as others. At the end of the season, I look at all unturned hangers (not worn clothing). Then decisions made to keep or donate. This method helped me see I’m only wearing 1/4 of what’s in my closet...

I try that system every so often but don’t stick with it for long. I do have a small section in the closet for clothes that I didn’t wear long enough to warrant washing.

Since I snowbird the vast majority of my tops and pants are spring/summer weight.

Oops, I misread your post, @gidgetgh. The hanger method I have tried to follow is the same as @Shanus.
