Hi ladies, Im wondering if any of you can recommend good traveling outfits. Im looking for a tunic or hooded top or jacket and pant set or any other style but comfortable to wear with flats or sneakers. I hate wearing jeans or leggings when im traveling, I prefer to be in comfortable loose fitting clothes and shoes.

Btw, What do you wear?

Thanks ladies.

I bought a waterproof jacket from Eddie Bauer before I went to Australia. It was really all I needed for a jacket as it was still hot in Australia for the most part and it rained a bit too. I removed the neck tags and velcro closures as the jacket has a front zipper closure and the velcro is not necessary and I don't want it to catch on my clothes. Any scratchy labels will drive you crazy on a long flight so take them off your clothes

I never once wore my light packable down jacket at all and it was just another thing to haul around in my 28 inch rollerboard which weight over 45 lb when full.

As far as clothes to wear on an airplane, wear a comfortable stretch bra and panties that won't bug you on a long flight. I wore jeans but probably could have worn lightweight gray jogging pj pants as I was on a 13 hour flight. I wore socks and lace up sneakers on the plane as that long of a flight without socks would have meant my feet would start to smell as they sweated. But I wish I wore my Skecher sandals on the flight instead so I could easily kick them off.

I was also in the middle seats in the middle row without a lot of leg room. I won't make the same mistake again. I would upgrade my seat if possible as I was stiff and sore from my back on down from sitting for so long in a seat and row without leg room. I would also pick a seat on the aisle too for ease in getting up and down.

If you are on a super long flight like the one from Houston to Australia which is about 18 hours, you need loose clothing. You have a tendency to swell on long flights like this. Do not take shoes off for a long time or you might not be able to comfortably get them on again. Slip them off, wiggle feet, etc. and put them back on. Light weight compression hose are great for long flights to help prevent DVT. Aisle seats are a must as you can get up easily, walk the aisle for exercise, or even stick feet out to exercise them. I always upgrade to economy plus for the extra leg room.

@mintedrose, I travelled a great deal in my work life. Among us frequent travellers, someone circulated a a letter that a fire fighter had sent his flight attendant wife. He wrote it after attending a fire at a major hotel.

He told her this. When checking into the hotel, always locate the fire exit. Count the doors from your room to the exit. In heavy smoke, you will stay low to the ground and may not be able to see the exit sign. He went on to recount a very sad story of lost life in hotels because of fire.

The other thing I make sure I do is to always wear shoes, not sandals, on a plane. In the event of a crash, you want something on your feet that will protect them. This is especially appropriate when leaving northern (snowy) locations for sun destinations.

It is second nature for me to do this after many years of travel. LM

I have an acquaintance who was the chief pilot for a major airline. He said he used to cringe at many of the outfits he saw women wearing to travel. It had nothing to do with style or fashion and everything to do with protecting yourself in case of an emergency.

His advice to me was - always wear long pants and long sleeves (or have a jacket/sweater/hoodie), socks and shoes that you can run in without loosing them. Always wear natural fibers. In the case of an emergency, if you have to go down the slide, you'll have horrible friction burns if you have bare legs. In case of a fire, polyester melts. I typically wear jeans, a cotton t-shirt, socks and running shoes, and stuff a hoodie in my back pack.

Also recommend Lands End Starfish and Chico Travelers brands. Also like Eddie Bauer Travex pants and jackets. Husband also got Travex pants and enjoyed. Got smart last plane trip and wore socks with my mules and then after going through security could take off socks and go into shoes with clean feet.
