A Bash Thread

Orchid, the color. I absolutely believe it does not flatter anyone. It makes them look and appear older and matronly. I am really not liking the way it is going to be promoted for Spring/Summer. I won't buy items in that dreadful color and will quietly sympathize for those gals that fall for the trend. My take.

It's certainly not my favorite color. I agree that it's sort of matronly. I'm sure there are many who think the opposite.

I'm an old one, too. But I don't think the writer meant washed out lavender like they're showing. Real purple isn't the worst thing I can wear, so long as it's a reddish purple. Blue purples aren't my cup of tea (or grape juice).

I won't be buying the orchid either.

Just because you do not like doesn't mean everyone doesn't. I don't care for it, but I'm sure millions do. I detest white, don't own a single piece, yet it is the first to sell out in handbags & pants every time.

I guess I am an exception. I am 64 and orchids and pinks and purples have always brightened and flattered me; they still do. I would think it is more a matter of skin tone than age.

The tones that wash me out completely are in the mauve/blush range. I can wear some of them, but most of them give me a terrible pallor. Same for most olive, rust and certain greens, like emerald green.

I lusted for the Vera Wang tanks and tees sold in Kohls for the longest time. I liked the bold graphic designs. Eventually, I bought two of them. For some reason, her color palette is horrible on me. I'm going to donate them. Even though both have purple in them, the other colors she uses with them do me in.

Perk up - Yes, it is that washed up or heathered color that is quite unflattering.

Orchid is a difficult color for many; I think fair haired blondes might look good in this color. I am a brunette and this color doesn't look good on me as a column of color unless I have either a print with that color in it, or a decent tan. I have a few items already in orchid color and that is all I will be using as its a color I do not wear too often.

I have to agree that there are FAR more flattering colors of purple. I'm not planning on buying anything in this color--wouldn't work with my skin.

They only pick colors that no one has or would ever wear so you have to buy new clothes to be ""IN"". That pink is horrible!!!!

I have never understood the obsession QVC has with the color purple. Whether its clothes, jewelry, kitchen appliances, shoes, whatever, they always make a point of saying "For you purple girls out there." It makes no sense to me and is annoying. In any case, color is a matter of personal preference. I wear colors that I feel look good on me, regardless of trend and what may or may not be "color of the year". As far a s orchid goes, no, I would not wear it as, I agree, it is a matronly looking color.

I would never embrace a color simply because someone dictates that it is the color of the year. To my eye, orchid is nothing that I see as matronly.

Now, God bless the ladies who are into that purple/red stuff. That is a horrid combination.

Oh, my! I should buy it for my dear, sweet MIL. She wears almost primarily purple tones. She has a beautiful home in a ritzy area of Long Island. She had the front door and shutters painted orchid. Dh and I shake our heads when we see it, as they neighbors probably do, but it makes her happy and that's good.

Color is such a subjective thing...you could put ten women in the same Orchid item of clothing and each would probably have a different reaction to it when they wear it. Its not for me either....I don't 'feel' good in orchid, though I have tried. It doesn't work for me.

I don't care for it in some saturations, but deeper orchids, I do like. I don't like "washed out" orchid/very light shades.

As long as we're bashing colors, can I add Chartreuse to this thread, or is it only an Orchid thread?

If you will permit me Love Roses, I will say I don't like Chartreuse at all!

I don't like Chartreuse or Orchid. I do, however, love emerald (kelly) green and deep purple and wear them often. I know a lot of people were not a fan of last year's Pantone Color of the Year (Emerald Green), but I love it and wear it well.
