Scam Alert Re iTunes

Today I received a third email invoice that looked very authentic regarding purchases from ITunes. All of these invoices show me purchasing games. There is a statement that requests me to click if I did not generate the purchase. I knew enough to not click, as I had not purchased anything from ITunes.

After the third invoice I called Apple support and he was able to share screens with me. He said the invoice looked authentic, but there were subtle differences that he pointed out that verified it is a scam. He said he has received calls like mine every day for the past year. He had me send a copy of the invoice to the Apple fraud department.

If you receive any invoices from ITunes stating that you authorized a purchase when you didn't....don't click on the page. You are probably smart enough not to do this, but just want to protect my friends on this forum.

I don’t leave a CC on my account in iTunes and only use a iTunes gift card there

Thanks for the heads up. I got one yesterday. My grandson makes iTunes purchases with my account but he always asks me first. The one I received yesterday he didn't. Thought it was odd but figured I'd ask him this morning.

It's a shame how we have to be so careful about everything.

this has happened to me a few times.

i always check my credit card statements to see if any of these charges went through.

i also check the email address that the email comes from. it may say "itunes" but you can see that it is not coming from apple or itunes.

I have had multiples of these notices. I simply check my AMEX and if there is no itunes charge (and there haven't been any), then I ignore it.

I tried calling Apple, but the person I spoke with didn't seem interested so I'm not bothering with that again.

If a charge shows up, I'll deal with AMEX - they are much more helpful in these matters apparently.

The first time I got one of their invoices,I was in Ireland in October. I don't own any Apple products nor have an account so I ignored it.When I got home,I checked all my credit cards for any charges. I started to panic since I was overseas but I knew the credit card companies had my back.I think I got one more in November and just delelted it.I don't click on anything anymore. Too many scammers.

I haven't gotten this from I-tunes but have gotten several similar type e-mails where they pretend it is from Amazon. Like someone has made a purchase through your Amazon account and if you didn't make these purchases click here. I worry that some people will fall for these schemes (and I guess they do.)

@ Montana Thanks for posting this email. While I was sharing screens with Apple, this is the address that was used to forward the scam invoice.

The Live Chat was a while back, and I cannot remember how I got there. I recently had an iTunes problem and had to send an email. That was the only option offered.

They did respond quickly and resolved the problem.

@phoenixbrd, What number did you call for Apple Support? I had a problem recently, and for the life of me I could not find a contact for a live person.

I finally had to resort to an email. Not my favorite way to communicate.

New scam alert. Just got an "emergency" phone message that my Microsoft license key was expired and that I should call immediately.

Looked it up on google and it's a scam. Be careful out there.
