MacDuff's Fleece WRAP...

Thanks to Wayne for deleting my old fleece wrap thread wherein I tried to explain all this without pics.

This is an easy peasey fleece wrap. It's not haute couture, but it is affordable, warm, easy (about 15 min of cutting time), no-sewing, machine wash/dry, comfy-cozy. It's possible that y'all have done this before and I'm late to the party, but thot I'd pass it on.

Start with plaid unless you have a steady hand and can cut a straight line without markers......about a yard and a half (I have since learned that a yard and a quarter is more than enough for me). Around $15 max, unless fleece is on sale, then maybe $7 to $10 (less if making it for a child or someone petite).

Square off all 4 sides, cutting off the ugly ends and getting straight lines using the lines in the plaid...ending up with a clean-cut, oblong piece.

Fold longwise (is that a word?)...and pin/mark the halfway point (on the fold)...

Unfold the fleece and lay flat. Now, you want to cut 2 or 3 inches from the center...before I unfolded it, I eye balled the area I want to cut out (between my 2 fingers in top pic). Then, cut that section out up to the pin you made in the center...

You end up with this. From here, try it on and make any adjustments...I cut out the center piece a little more than halfway, for example. Petite? No problem...just cut from any or all edges to your specs. Feel as if it's too tight around your neck? Cut a bigger center area...

I like to wear them slightly off centered and the front "flaps" thrown over my shoulders...it looks cute thrown over shoulder or not. Are you clever and crafty? A whipstitch all around the edges looks great...I will probably be too lazy to do that . A piped edge would be easy to sew, too. This one cost me $6 and 15 minutes of cutting and adjusting.

I absolutely love this idea. I know I could do this, what could be easier. Love your plaids too. I am so into plaids right now. Can't wait to hit Joannes. Thanks for sharing.

Wouldn't it be neat to make one for each of the ladies in your fam out of Christmas prints, animal, whatever, as a "wear on Christmas (morning, afternoon, evening"....).

Thanks. I like plaids, but in small doses . What I love about this wrap is how easy it is and how warm. It's funny you mention Joannes...the one closest to me closed...next closest isn't very. They just don't have as many great plaids as they used to have, and I don't have any other close choices. I was "lucky" to find these two plaids. Let me know how it works out for you, luv, and would love to see a picture of the finished product!

That would be fun, EC! I think these make great gifts, too, especially if you whipstitch the edge. I made a solid pink one for my Mom...she used it so much that she wanted another one for her lap/legs (wheelchair bound near the end of her life). She passed away before I could do it, but I thought of making a long one...iow, starting with a much longer piece (maybe 4 or 5 yards?) and making it so it would cover her back, go around her neck, and the front flaps would fall long enough to cover her lap and legs.

But, yeah, you can use whatever prints or solids you love. I mostly wear mine as outerwear, but do wear them around the house to take away the chill, too.

Ok I will try to post a pic when I am done. Hoping to get out this weekend for the fabric. My heart is set on plaid, but I'm sure I will find something that appeals to me.
