I feel that ruanas and wraps only can be worn in a warm climate. I live in Michigan and am already in my heavy coat, big furry boots and mittens. A wrap just won't get it here.

I have a couple of black wool wraps that I wear when it is a little chilly, but not cold enough for a jacket or coat. Easy to put on and take off and doesn't mess with your hair like a poncho. Here I am at a wedding a while back.

you might want to try the ruana by barefoot dreams if it's in your price range (or wait for a sale). i am about your size (5'4" and 104 lbs) and I tried it on in a store before deciding that it was perfect for me! You can adjust it so that it lays different ways on the body. Otherwise, most of these styles are too big for me too.

I just splurged and bought this one in chambray for my 50th birthday gift to myself!

Yes, I've always been a lover of wraps and ruanas. I live in MA and they are necessity for me. I can't count how may I have. I wear them in the dead winter when it's frigid outside and cold inside. Today's winter coats aren't very warm. I often wear a wrap/ruana/big scarf under my coat to keep the wind out and when I get inside, I cover it with it (often belted) to keep me warm inside. In spring/fall/cold summer nights; I wear one to keep the chill off. That's why I have them in all colors, even pastels. When we eat on the outdoor patio of our favorite restaurant in summer, I take one with me to cover my shoulders if I get chilly.

I first became a big fan of the Ruana a long time ago when Q had the line Precious Fibers (anybody remember? LOVELY items!) and I purchased one in a pretty twilight blue color and a cashmere blend) . It made me a believer and I got...... errr....I mean Santa got me 2 of Martha's ruanas for Christmas. Both are lovely! Check them out if you are a big fan.. I agree....perfect for California.

I have been wearing wraps for at least twenty years - although I live in New York, I don't find the winters cold, so instead of a bulky coat, I use one of my wraps. Trains are too warm, buses too - as well as the inconvenience going in and out of stores which are always too warm.

My collection keeps growing as I am always finding new ones - when working, I often used one as a jacket over my dresses, "artfully" draped (not so much artful!) and felt pulled together. Obviously, I'm not talking about the heavier ones which clearly are for outdoors.

I recenlty found a shop in NYC which had tons of wraps and can't wait to return for more.

I love Ruanas, but not wraps. Ruanas "stay put" because of the way they're cut and are longer in the back. In St. Louis I can wear them in the fall and early winter, and also early spring. They just have a style all their own!

I love the look of them, but they are not for me. I am too short and too uncoordinated to wear them. I get tangled and they fall off. I have to fight with them too much.

I keep one in the car. My DH likes it cold and turns the AC blasting...and in the winter, I can get comfortable with my coat off and the wrap around me to keep warm.

Yes, I have an Aran Craft (Irish) wool ruana that is surprisingly warm. It even has pockets.

And I have a couple of "Layers by Lizden" wraps that not only look fabulous (peek-a-boo crochet weave) but are perfect for certain days and temps, and can be used as neck or head scarves, as well. I even use them as drapes on chairs in the house, and then use them as a lap blanket.
