Multiples

I know we all buy multiples of some things like socks, underwear, basic Tees and sweaters in different colors but I find it a bit bizarre for someone to purchase a coat or a dress in three or four colors. If I saw someone wearing the exact same dress except different colors to the office I would think,it a bit strange and think that the wearer has very little imagination. Does anyone else find this a bit strange?

I agree. If it is a basic layering item I get it but if it something distinctive I do not understand it.

I never wore dresses to work but in one job my everyday pants were jeans. If I found a good fitting pair I will buy a couple. Same when I switched jobs. Never wore skirts or dresses there either but my everyday normal was black pants. I guess I have little imagination but every job I’ve ever had has been very casual. Thank goodness.

No, not at all!

In the past, I've made multiples of the same dress - different colors.

I have three colors of the same coat. Multiples of jackets in different colors.

I don't think there's anything unusual about it.

I have been known to buy the same garment that I love in different colors. If I like a particular print or think an item is particularly flattering, easy to wash, etc and it comes in multiple colors, I often buy more than 1.

This suits me and I dress to please myself so if co-workers find it “strange” that’s ok. My co-workers are so busy I doubt they care what I wear.

I don’t work so that is not an issue for me. However I don’t find it strange. I bought a SG velour top that I love so much I went back and bought all the colors. So now I have 5. Change the bottoms and it never looks the same. I dress for myself and like what I like.

I don't agree. I don't wear or own any dresses so don't have multiples of those.

I do have multiples of t-shirts, other shirts, pants, capris, jeans. When I find something that fits good I will be multiples as long as they also fit good. That's hard to do today. No 2 items ever fit the same.

Example I bought half a dozen pairs of space dye joggers with a few of them without the jogger bottom. All the same size, all made by the same company. None of them fit the same.

I hate shopping for clothes because of this so I do tend to buy multiples.

Apparently, I am "very strange and have very little imagination" because I have several dresses in different colors. Same with sweaters, slacks and jeans. I even have a Joan trench coat in the red and black. That puts me in the "bizarre" category!

This summer I bought a pair of Born sandals that were perfect, comfortable and cute. I then purchased another pair in a muted orange, then later in the season , I bought brown ones on sale. I love them , and am so glad that I bought multiples.

I worked at Macy’s for many years and our dress code was very dark solid colored clothing. So when I found a certain fitting pant in black, I would buy multiples. Although I usually didn’t buy duplicates of the tops. I tried to style them with jewelry and scarves and belts. Due to a complicated and unsuccessful knee replacement, I’m unable to work in retail anymore, so I now have a closet full of black clothes.😊

My boss at work gave me a sign recently that says "You have to be odd to be NUMBER 1", so I already knew I was a bit on the different side .

I love dresses, mostly for work but sometimes for play too. And my body shape means it is not always easy to find a style that looks flattering in a dress. When I find a particular cut that looks good I buy multiples....assorted colors and prints keep it from looking exactly the same. I've never thought about what others are thinking, but if I remember tomorrow I will ask my coworkers and see.

I live in Illinois where we not only have harsh and cold winters but wind that is like no other. I am also cold natured so winter - which can start in September and end in May - is quite a challenge for me. I hate the way most down coats look so I was quite pleased when four years ago, I discovered a micro-fiber coat at Burlington's which is lined, has a faux fur lined large hood, and keeps me warm. I purchased it in teal green. The next year I purchased the same coat in black. The year after that in brown. Last year in purple. I don't plan to get one this year unless it comes out in red. If it does, all bets are off.

If anyone is bothered by my multiple look-alike coats it's their issue. Not mine.

I bought multiples of lots of things when I was working, including suits, dresses, blouses & sweaters. If it fit well and looked good, I was all over it. It was about my work, not my wardrobe.

I am a “serial” multipler. LOL! If I love it, fits well, is comfortable, etc. whatever it may be, I will usually get more than 1. Rather have a wardrobe of similar or like items than items I don’t like or wouldn’t wear. And I am aware of my daily outfits so I don’t worry about duplicating during the same work week.

@Tique I hear ya on the cold harsh winters and I am a freezy cat myself. I am your northern neighbor in Wi. Yesterday it was gorgeous! Upper 70’s. Today, rain all day and 52 degree’s. Gotta love it. I am not a winter person and I am sure yesterdays weather is a thing of the past until May sometime. ☹️ 10 day forecast shows 60 and cloudy tomorrow and then 40’s / 50’s for highs with lows some nights in the low 30’s. A couple below freezing. Nooooooo........❄️🌬☃️ 🙈

If I find something I like, I'll buy more than one color. I have Land's End ponte shift dresses in half a dozen colors.

My bod is not super hard to fit BUT it isn't often that I buy something off the rack that fits perfectly. So when I stumble across that item, I won't hesitate to buy multiples.
