Long Cardigans ...

Preface this with ... I rarely get rid of clothes unless I'm sure I'll never wear them again (... like my corporate clothes when I retired ... or they no longer fit me). Styles are tweaked and introduced again on what seems a rotating schedule.

Back about 10+ years when long cardigans were popular, I bought a few of the the lighter weight knitted ones from Chico's, Coldwater Creek, IOS Catalog and other places. I still had them tucked in the back of the closet.

Well - they are back in my regular rotation. I wore one to a functionthat I had to attend earlier today.

So glad I remembered I had them!

I didn't realize they ever went out of fashion. Shows how much I pay attention. I just wear what I like and I like long cardigans.

I had never worn one, but bought an inexpensive "duster" cardigan from Forever 21 a few years back.

It was a rust and tan print and I wore it over a black turtleneck and pants. The duster is a lightweight knit.

I got several compliments on it and, honestly, it did look nicer than anything in my closet.

Loved the slimming aspect of it.

years ago, i owned quite a few of those duster cardigans that i bought in nordstrom. i eventually donated all of them, and then here we are. they're back. i went to buy one last week and when i was trying it on, 2 women came up to tell me it looked good and that i should buy it. so of course i did!

'If we were/are smart' (well, some of us who have always liked to 'save' favorite items), we should save our favorites in labeled plastic bins, clean and nicely folded. 'Just in case' a style returns. No chance of dust, fading, or drooping out of shape on hangers. Fashion history repeats itself.

I have clothes from the 90's in plastic bins and have yet to wear them. It's hard to part with Pendelton jackets and cashmere sweaters, but I think they are gonna go. After so much time has passed, I noticed even though the clothes fit and they are in excellent condition, they look dated.

I was encouraged to read your post @ALRATIBA!

If I like something, I keep it forever and wear it a lot!

One of my favorite things is a beautiful cranberry jacket with black patent buttons and a pleated peplum I got from Casual Corner about 40 years ago!

My wonderful father in law gave me money to go out and buy some nice clothes.

It has always been in style and I always get compliments on it.

It really is true that well made clothes with good fabrics last forever!

But some things, like clothes we wore in the 60's-our hippy clothes that I might never have really liked, when I see them again in the stores I think, no, we already did that.

Didn't like them so much then or now either!

I think we all feel good when we wear something we like whether its in style or not.

I'm not sure I even know what "dated" means.

Just like the house hunters shows-everything is "dated". I get sick of hearing that word. And when did "outdated" become "dated"?

Oh I guess I could find a lot of things to be grouchy about that don't matter at all!😏

Before you dispose of the sweaters, check to see if you can update wth accessories.

Jackets can be a problem. It "killed me" to get rid of my jackets with the shoulder pads. And - my red coat with the shoulder pads. I LOVED those thngs!

@ALRATIBAThe jackets are waist lenth with shoulder pads and the cashmere sweaters are short too. I guess I could wear a longer vest over the sweaters, I'll try it.

@ALRATIBA, Your cardigans sound like timeless pieces. I really like some of the longer cardigans that come just above the knee. Sundance Catalog offered some very nice ones at one point.

I just went to look at the Sundance Catalog ... there is one in the catalog (Linsey cardigan) that looks similar to some of mine.

They do have some great looking sweaters ... I may try to "reverse engineer" and try to copy them.

I do not own any duster length cardigans. I have seen tons of them online and have thought about buying one, but haven't yet. I do own a few tunic length cardigans and lots of regular length ones. Love a good cardigan!

I have one, but being just 5" 6", the Misses one hit me mid knee and I figured I would have drag on my slacks when walking. I got the one out of Petites. Perfect! Ahhhhhhh.........
