Eyelet: Yay, Nay, or Just Okay...?

Some people love it in any form, like all over, and others just like a bit of it. Is it a yay, nay or it depends on the garment for you?

I love the one eyelet blouse I have and I did like the Denim & C0 eyelet-sleeved blouse I bought until it became uncomfortably big as I lost weight.

I would never wear any of the items pictured in any fabric. They're just not styles that fit my body - never have, never will.

I like one or two pieces of "grown up" eyelet that doesn't look like eyelet. Most of it looks too juvenile for me but it looks nice on others. I want it to have some hef to it so it isn't see thru. I prefer items that can go for more than one season. I rather purchase seersucker for summer.

I do have some pieces with eyelet - not many. Depends on the item. I do not like any of the items pictured except the pink dress. That I like.

I like eyelet when it's done sparsely. Just a touch of it on a hem, collar or cuffs. Not on an entire garment which makes it look more like lace to me.

Eyelet is that cool, retro summer fabric reminiscent of the 50s and 60s. With temps warming, ventilated fabrics are practical again. I think we will see more eyelet, laser cutting, etc.

Eyelet cafe curtains from many years ago were replaced by more "modern" window treatments but they let in a breeze without billowing and without sacrificing privacy. I think we will see more.

I like eyelet trim on summer garments, but only when used in moderation. I don't care for an entire garment made of eyelet, or when it's combined with ruffles-- that's too 'little girl'-looking, IMO.

I like it but it depends on the garment.. I can't think of anything I currently own that has eyelet.

I'm not one for embellishments or eyelet, ruffles on my clothes. It makes them look dated way too soon. Besides, who would want a sweatshirt w/ rhinestones? The 2 just don't go together.

I don't buy into trends....I think eyelet will be a "been there done that".

@Andreatoo: But the scallops aren't 'gathered,' so they're not true ruffles to me, lol.

My mother loved to dress me in pink, white, or blue eyelet dresses as a child, so I guess that's where I picked up my natural affinity for the design. As an adult, I don't own many pieces, but I like the ones I have. My favorites are a navy eyelet sleeveless shirt dress from Land's End and a fuchsia and orange skirt from Talbot's. The skirt has an orange lining beneath hot pink eyelet. I get lots of compliments on it when I wear it.

When it comes to linens and curtains, I haven't seen any eyelet designs that I liked well enough to buy, but I still like to look and keep an open mind for future purchases.
