Fuzz remover or what for pilling? What do you recommend?

I was looking at the Gleener Fuzz Remover QVC is offering today and question its safety for fabric. I have never used any type of fuzz/pilling remover. Which type do you recommend?

The negative reviews on the Gleener are what I was thinking could happen, i.e., create an overall fuzzy texture to knits and wear down the yarns. But I've been equally wary of electric shavers. Basically I end up throwing out any clothes that get too badly pilled.

I use the Hollywood Fashion Sweater Saver. It's a pumice stone . I use it for the cashmere sweaters that I have. It's gentle and does the trick. It's about six bucks at Bed Bath and Beyond

I have the gleener and really like it. I tried it on several different types of fabric and it worked well, those 'pills' really bug me and I was happy to find something that worked. You do have to pay attention to what type of fabric you are using it on but I think it's worth trying.

i bought six gleeners for christmas gifts and they were well received. it does work well on many different types of fabrics AND on upholstery.

i also have sweater stones that i purchased from ebay. they work well on some fabrics, but you have to have a light hand.

I sometimes will use a regular razor like the ones you use to shave your legs to shave off pills on ITY jersey. One cause of pilling that I discovered is the labels sewn into the left hand seam of your outerwear garments..usually the label is big and uses metallic threads. Another cause could be the outerwear itself such as faux shearling coat inside seams. And a third cause can be from auto seat belts, so in that case, wear a cardigan or something to protect the knit top while you are driving. A 4th cause can be from jeans back pockets if they are heavily embroidered or if they have flap pockets because the edges can catch and rub on the top fabric.

Yes......it weakens the fiber. That's why I would never use something like that on car seats and home upholstery (like they suggested).......very expensive to replace.

I use a tailor's brush. I have a couple of them and have had both for several years. One is a Kent Brush model and it was a little pricey. The other is a rather inexpensive Fuller Brush Co. model.

The BEST one I've ever found (and you can find on ebay for around $5) Is the Oak Hill Industries D-FUZZ-IT fuzz remover sweater comb. Had one for years and it works GREAT ....in fact so good my Mom bagged mine and I had to get another one! Works on everything from my nicest cashmere sweaters to the pilling/fuzz balls on any fabric. A must have for sweater lovers!

OMG...I was just going to ask the same question when I saw your thread! I have a sweater stone, but it can be a little harsh...and all that black dust. Ugh! Might give this Gleener a try.

Have never tried it myself, but sites all over the Internet say to just use a disposable razor to remove pilling - google it for ore info.

My clothing doesn't pill & if it does I toss it. I tried those battery pillers & sticky rollers and they are too much trouble & time consuming.

I was just going to post that you can easily use a razor. Although, you can buy battery operated "defuzzers" at Walmart for $5.00 that work perfectly fine.

I use the Gleener and am very happy with it. That said, most of my clothing, coats and sweaters are not expensive materials. But for every day items, it works great.

Just read a blog about this very thing. She recommends using just a simple velcro hair roller. She said she accidently dropped some velcro rollers on a cashmere sweater and found that the rollers grabbed the little pills but did not pull the fibers. Caveat---I have not tried this yet but she demo'd it working with photos.
