Denim clothing with raggedy hems --- What are your thoughts?

This may have been posted already, but I did not see it if so.

What are your thoughts on this trend?

For a while I had seen various people on t.v. wearing jeans with the hems out --- for lack of a better description. And I'm thinking --- this looks kind of unkempt. I mean, back in the day, when we wore a pair of jeans forever and the bottoms started to get ratty and raggedy, the hems would get all frayed and there would be strings, etc. And it would be like --- well, about time for a new pair!!!

Even, the shorter jeans --- like crops or whatever you want to call them are featuring this style. Not sure how I feel about it??

Then, the other day I was browsing in a couple different stores and I see denim dresses and tops with the raggedy hems also.

In one way I think --- well, kind of cute in a very casual, fun, playful way.

In another, I think --- they are already half-ways destroyed! LOL!

What are your thoughts? Would you buy them -- wear them?

Oh --- and while I am on the subject of denim --- did you happen to see the jeans that are out wich are already dirty/muddy? Unbelievable! They had them on the news and Mike Rowe was commenting. HA! I think it was Nordstrom that had them --- but not sure.

Good morning @AngelPuppy1. :-) Like any other trend, it's something that has been revived from back in the day. We used to intentionally cut and fray the hems on our denim jeans way back (even on shorts), pulling out threads to make a short fringe and sometimes the strings would hang. I liked it then -- I don't care one way or the other now. It is not a trend I would run out to buy -- but then, I rarely run out to buy the latest trend.

We also used to wear our bell bottom jeans long so that we'd step on them, and the hem would get torn that way. Always soaked in the rain, too.

Like you mentioned, apparently the latest trend in jeans are those that look like you've rolled in the mud. At Nordstrom for a mere $425.

I read that Gwen Stefani paid over $700 for her fake mud jeans, similar to these:

I don't know who the "brains" behind these ideas are. They must sit up all night trying to think up something new. What's next? Pigeon poop jeans for us city folk? ..... Uh oh, I think I just gave away a multi-million dollar idea! :-O :-D

love the fringed, and released hem denim,

I had a pair of white jeans/cropped that I wasn't crazy about so I picked out the hem and now I have a released hem white jean for the summer.

I do not like ragged hems. I would not buy them or wear them. Also hate fadded, ripped, and dirty looking jeans. I like dark demin and prefer black over blue.

@AngelPuppy1, you don't say when "your day" was, but in "my day", early 70s, this is exactly what we did. And jeans did not come this way - I remember picking out the hems of jeans and ironing them to get that look.

In either case, I like the trend because it reminds me of those days.

I was part of the hippie crowd back in the day with the frayed hems, but they don't appeal to me now, at this stage of my life.

ETA: But I have no problem with others who like the return of this trend wearing them!

I like some of them. C Wonder had a cute pair with a bit of an unfinished, frayed bottom. I just don't want it super exaggerated.

I saw a pair on Evine, but they sold out super fast. They were really cute, and I don't like many of their fashion offerings. I would have bought them, but they are gone.

Being an old hippie I like the frayed hems. IMO clothiers should have a little bit of everything for everyone, such as bell bottoms, straight leg, skinny leg, boot cut, frayed, etc. Some times I have to hunt and hunt to find "my" style clothing, which is as eclectic as my house style. I am 72 yrs old and I dont want to dress like my grandma did, nor do I want to dress like my granddaughter, but I certainly would like more choices. Just wait ladies until you get my age and try to look stylish and good. No one and I mean no one makes clothing geared towards savy seniors.

I dunno..........when I was in college........(in the 60's), we cut off our jeans, and the sleeves of sweatshirts, too.............so it's not a "new" thing.

I am not a fan by any means of the holes and sliced legs, ragged hem jeans in any way, shape or form.

I am all for whatever trend works for others. If they like it..hey great.

If we ever wore them to school and out like that other than play clothes people would of felt sorry for us.

That said LOL you knew that was coming ...in this case there is a time and place if one must succumb to this trend lol..

Not for job interviews, not on the job as office casual day attire...I don't want to go do business at a financial institution, Town Clerk, DMV, Insurance Co etc and see the staff in ripped jeans with holes. But that is just me - old fashioned? Old School?

But then again I am not a fan of just because you have PJ Pants with whatever picture all over doesn't mean I want to see them out in Public either.

@SaRina If I saw someone looking that dirty I wouldn't want to sit anywhere they sat.it looks like they want us to get comfortable with construction jobs requiring heavy labor.

I am NOT young and destressed jeans have been a look as long as I can remember, and I think will be for a long long time to come. It celebrates the nature of jeans and their hard-working heritage, as well as a fun look for casual wear.

To me, raggedy hems seem so sloppy and unkept.

Same goes for the jeans with the holes in them. And my daughter loves them. UGH.

And the new muddy jeans? I can't imagine someone paying over $400 for them.

I just threw away 2 pair of jeans b/c the hems were getting frayed. While I would not want to wear them, if I donated them, someone would be happy to have them. Who knew.
