Overheard in the Consignment Shop

I stopped by one of my favorite consignment shops yesterday. About 70% clothes, the rest is some new gadgets/gizmos and collector items, crystal & china.

I was waiting to check out when I heard a woman inquiring to one of the managers about bringing in her jeans to sell on consignment. She had them in her car and was asking the procedure. Manager told her we don't take drop-offs, we prefer to go through your items with you present and we only take designer jeans. Manager also told her she won't get much for them, maybe $6-$7 because everyone is wearing YOGA PANTS.

@software Yoga pants? Really? Maybe the manager has the terminology mixed up, because around here......NO ONE is wearing yoga pants anymore (I still wear them at home). ALL the young girls and many of the older gals are wearing leggings. I do still see quite a lot of jeans around here, mostly the ones with all the holes, not designer. (I work at a college, and most of our students couldn't afford $100+ jeans!)

Wow! I am not wearing yoga pants, not in public anyway.

It would be interesting to look thru that store, find the jean rack and just see how much they are selling them for.

@software Yoga pants are flared at the bottom, and often have a foldover waist. Leggings fit close to the body all the way down to the ankle.

I quit taking anything to our local consignment place. Women are all stuck ups and snotty. One ol' ***** told me "we don't take petites" What ?

There's no petite women in Tx. ? they make you jump thru hoops and only take certain labels.

It's a shame, lot of people would be happy with my clothes. These women act like if it's not from Lady Astor's closet it's not good enough for their shop. I wasn't taking in walmart/kmart items. Dillards, Isaac, Christopher Banks, QVC brands, Macy's, etc.

Shame, a waste.

@SharkE Isn't it funny how some people working behind the counter act in high-end stores? If they're so important, they wouldn't be behind a register. I've never understood that.

Around here, and to be clear, I live in Hooterville, you don't wear yoga pants except maybe to Walmarts and I guess anything goes there. Jeans are worn everywhere. Guess we must be different...

Unless it's something really upscale and likely to sell above $100, the shop I use will not accept fewer than 5 garments at one time and they suggest you bring more than that because they reject what they feel won't sell quickly.

Doesn't upset me - I know I'm super fussy about the things I buy there because there are no returns. She's pretty good; from my last consignment she accepted 20 items and sold 18 of them, more than half at the first price she asked. I donate what they won't take. as well as anything they can't sell.

I'm not a leggings person but I wear yoga pants a lot on the weekends. Most of them are C9 by Champion from Target.

I really like these and the capri style, which aren't skin tight, either. I haven't worn jeans in years, because they are just too hot! Not comfortable in my climate!

So what? That's probably one of your favorite consignment shops because they are so fussy. NO shop should be expected to accept everyones' kwap because they want to get rid of it.

If that was the manager, she knows what sells, and what will just hang on the racks forever. Her fussiness makes for a better store.

@Tinkrbl44, I own several pair of these and love them. I own both the bootcut and the straight leg. Target fairly often runs them on sale for $19.99. The black is a very saturated deep black and they wash up really nicely.

Walmart also carries Danskins that seem similar but my local store never has them in stock and even on-line is often sold out so I don't know how they really compare. They get good reviews and they are cheaper.

Too many people take things to consignment shops that should just be donated, but they don't realize it. Consignment shops know darn well from experience what will sell and what won't. They have the right to be fussy, and what they'll put in the square footage they have to work with.

Some stores in my area are "regular" shops, and some take only designer clothing! Take the tax receipt at Goodwill and forget about it. JMO

Why do a lot of women follow suit and wear yoga pants? I do not wear them so I guess I am out of style. Who cares? lol It could be that I am a mature woman and do not follow the trends.

That is strange about the petites. I finally tired of having to alter everything(like buying it twice) so now if they do not sell it in petite I do not buy it.

You might check to see if you have a shelter for women in domestic abuse situations. They usually need clothing particularly if they had to leave in a hurry.

I like them too. I think they are comfortable and they look nice.
