Do You Ever Go To High Scale Consignment Shops?

Also, last year I purchased this Jimmy Choo bag, if you missed it on the other thread, at the other shop I take things to. Unique pieces can be found in these shops!

Good finds!

I only go when I need something for a special occasion. There is a town nearby with a median family income of nearly $200,000 and they have good taste. The ladies use the consignment shops to buy and sell. Sometimes I go just to look.

Tampa has a couple of high end consignment shops. One had a client that flew to Paris and shopped frequently. Her one top was $3,000 at the shop, used. They had some beautiful items. We would just go and look or sometimes buy for that special occasion. Or should I say we would go and dream!

@ZhillsThese are in no way like what you experienced. The shop where I got the Jimmy Choo bag ocassionally gets things from the owner friend who is in LA.

We have a few extremely affluent areas here like most places. Occasionally, something will make it's way into one of the shops. I prefer Linden Consignment (FB), where the handbag (in handbags) is shown and she also has the cute skirt I put up.

Our consignment here has changed to only the better and top brands now. They carry Talbots, Chicos, Eileen Fisher, Bananna Republic, and nice jewelry. They prefer my Karen Kane to my Michael Kors.

My sister goes to some of them. I only go to consign or donate. I'm "weird" about ever buying anything used. One of my sisters would not be caught dead in one, and the other will occasionally buy, LOL.

I will go in one to consign but not purchase.

I have never been in a consignment shop for fashions. I have never, ever worn a hand me down item or anything that was used.

I have purchased used wooden furniture, but not interested in upholstered furniture items.

I hate to go into antique shops. Too many spirits are still attached to their estate goods.

I shop consignment all the time. You would be surprised at the new items still with tags that are in them. We are retired and I like to dress nice but I do not want to go to work to afford what I want to wear so it is Consignment or department store 50/50 for me all the way.

Lots of the clothes in a good consignment are new. Some stores donate "out of season" clothes or people change sizes. I have a beautiful $200 dress I bought for a wedding; got sick and couldn't go. It happens. I have some QVC jeans, the ones everyone loved, that never got hemmed and now they are too big. Things happen. Consignment clothes are seldom "well worn."

SERIOUSLY???? I can afford to shop anywhere I want... buy just about anything.. I do not have a budget and I PREFER to buy something used that can be recycled if it is in great condition.. clothes, shoes, household goods... It is good for the environment, good for the world. There are a million can openers at goodwill... why would anyone buy a new one?? So many things donated to be used again. I am proud when I can reuse and do my part.

@SeaMaiden I never thought of it that way.I always thought goodwill and stores like it were to help people who couldn't afford new items...thought I would be taking something I shouldn't if I purchased.I like your idea to keep things out of the landfills and I will rethink my purchasing from thrift stores.

I can't buy whatever I want but also like to buy used items that are still funtional so they don't end up cluttering the Earth.

It's just responsible.

I like consignment shopping anyway. You just never know what you might find (high or low end).

I used to work with a woman who haunted consignment shops for vintage clothing and I have to say she is one of the most stylish women I've ever known. Her own style, not a carbon copy of the latest, but current nonetheless. She had a gift for it.

My Good will has EVERYTHING... and what is nice is that they hire people who may not be hireable in the regular job market... and they also train people for jobs... it is a win win situation for everyone. I go about once a month... It is like a treasure hunt each time I go.

Yes, I have. Been in some very nice ones in the ski resorts here in my state. The one I remember well was located in Aspen, Colorado and it was so expensive! I just looked around and left. Another was in Telluride and it had some really nice ski apparel. I bought a sweater and a hat there.
