Getting Rid of Wrinkles in Suede, Leather and Faux Leather - Easty peasy!

I was gathering some suede and faux leather items to take to the dry cleaner to be pressed, and was dreading what I figured it would cost.

As a last resort, I googled it and found out I can do it myself EASILY!!

Turn the item inside out.
Place a piece of plain, brown wrapping paper on top of the item on your ironing board.
Use a warm, dry (no steam) iron on top of the brown paper.

VOILA!!!

I just received a few Dennis Basso pieces and they were wrinkled from being packed. I tried this on them this afternoon and it worked brilliantly!

I also used this method on the folded front jacket and vest flaps so they would stay in place and it works great!!!

Thanks @AussieLuvr great tip. I need to do this on a couple of items I have.

Do you think a brown paper grocery bag would work? I don't have plain brown wrapping paper and would rather not have to go out to buy some!

Yes, all I have are plastic bags from Walmart. I will have to search for brown paper. I would have used steam so I'm glad to read that's a no-no. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. This leather loving lady may need to use that. I can get brown paper bags at Publix if I need them.

Brown paper bags may be too thick for the heat to go through That's why I'm asking the OP what she thinks. May need to get the wrapping paper which is thinner.

I'm sure it would! No special brown paper required; its mostly just to protect the nap of the suide and to prevent color transfer.

I save the piece of brown paper to use over and over, now that I've discovered this great way to save money at the cleaners.

@Pearlee I tried it with a brown paper bag & it worked great.Just cut the bag open so it's not to thick!!

I think a paper bag, cut down the seams so it is just one layer, would work. A person would probably have to work on the leather for a few minutes more due to the paper thickness but I think it would work.

I kept stopping and checking; I'd never done it before and wanted to make sure the suede was OK and that I wasn't overdoing it. The iron should be on low on the silk setting and absolutely no water.

Because I kept stopping to check, I would now say that I was overly cautious. But I had no idea what to expect. I learned that the suede was able to take more ironing than I thought it would. It took several times for me to get some of the wrinkles out. With thiccker paper I might nudge the heat level up a bit.
