Buttons!? Tonal or contrasting?

which do you prefer? Personally I gravitate towards the tonal. Didn't really think about it until SG kept showing her button down (recent TSV), of which I have 2 near identical to hers, but for the buttons on mine are the same color as the shirts...

I guess I'm more about function over decoration when it comes to buttons...

I think tonal is classic and more expensive looking.I think contrasting buttons look sporty.It would depend on what I wanted the top to portray about my outfit.

@Andreatoo I agree because the Henley is sporty but I do think the tonal buttons on the first Henley make it seem more expensive.

I think they both have their place. For me the tonal buttons are more dressy. I recently purchased this Linea shirt and the buttons are real shell. They look very nice against the white fabric...sets the buttons off like they are sort of an accessory. Buttons that are contrasting should be of good quality, otherwise they make the shirt look cheap.

I don't like buttons. If they have to be there, I'd prefer tonal.

(I just realized I have an INC shirt, sapphire blue with small rhinestone buttons. It breaks all of my "rules" yet I adore it. I guess rules are made to be broken.)

Tonal unless they're the statement like large artist inspired or wooden statement buttons. I want to put my outfit together without a button pulling the focus.

I prefer tonal buttons on clothing, but if I really like an item, I won't not consider it because it has contrasting buttons.

I tend to agree. Unless the button is the statement it can detract from an overall look. In general contrasting buttons can make an outfit too busy

@Andreatoo,I've always worked with color and design. I studied it, got a degree, designed clothing, taught , and sold clothing and fine jewelry. Everywhere I go I am asked "are you a designer?".

On most clothing items I like tonal buttons, but I like "fun" buttons too...on home decor, especially patio pillows and outdoor curtains, etc.

Definitely tonal
