I love the modern but classic look of Linea and think I'm taking a chance. What are the differences between Feather Jersey, Whisper Knit or Ponte Knit? Are they similar to SG's liquid knit or butterknit?

Hi, traveler. I am a newbie too, but SG's knits are of no comparison or in the same league as Louis's. gardensla, JustJazzmom and others can give you more details. :-)

In terms of thickness, the lightest weight one is the feather jersey or FJ fabric and it has a little stretch IMO- I sized down one size in top (The big shirt) and bottoms for the most part in this fabric. Its good for summer and late spring/ early fall September wear on LI, NY.

The ponte knit or PK are as thick in weight as the whisper knits or WK fabrics.

Both are excellent for year round wear here where I am except maybe in the high humidity of summer when I would switch from PK tops/bottoms to the feather jersey tops/ bottoms or WK tops. I wash all 3 fabrics in normal wash on cold water wash/rinse and then hang to dry. I have been turning inside out my WK fabrics and someone mentioned that it would not be a bad idea to do the same for the PK fabrics as well.

No shrinkage noted in this wash.

Note: some of the WK pants that were from last year did have slight shrinkage on low heat in the dryer. I did not alter the length on mine and they did shrink to a level that was wearable w/o dragging on the ground with 1.5" heels or sandals.

HTH.

Let me go look BRB.

ETA: Okay I'm back-- its 95 polyester/ 5% spandex.

I noticed that many of the lighter print tops LDO has in the hydrangea print for example are 91% polyester and 9% spandex or the animal print V neck top is 97% polyester and 3% spandex.

Even Macy's JM Collection print tops in the 3/4 sleeve length are 91% polyester and 9% spandex of a recently purchased one I have.

I guess the point I am making is they are stretchy but keep their shape because of the polyester and are relatively wrinkle free and easy to pack/fold.

I have SG butter knit and liquid knit. Whisper Knit and Ponte Knit are NOTHING like those SG fabrics. Whisper knit is a nice sweater weight and generally pretty universally non-see-through. Washes like a dream and wears well and long-time as in over the years. I've not had my whisper knits pill for example and I wash them fairly often.

Feather Jersey, however, is more along the weight and behavior of SG butter knit and liquid knit. Not the same - as feather jersey has an interesting texture that is unique to it - but similar in weight, draping and behavior.

Louis's ponte knit is a nice somewhat dense wrinkle resistant fabric. I don't have much of it but do have the one-time Linea TSV ponte knit peplum back jacket which is still available here. Don't expect Louis's ponte knits to "stretch" per se - in other words buy the right size for you based on the "click here" measurements - but they definitely do "give". I like that.

Whisper knits are sweaters made on fully fashioned machines like cashmere sweaters. The rayon nylon blend can be worn most of the year. The Feather Jersey and the Ponte Jersey are fabrics that are cut and sewn together, so they are very different that the WK. the ponte is a more substantial fabric . The Feather Jersey is a lighter weight and has much more drape and flow. It's great for the summer, early fall and late spring. I don't own any SG so I can compare.

traveler, one of the things I really like about the feather jersey knit is the slub knit design. It simulates the look of some of the silk blouses I own but is machine washable. I know some use the dryer, but I hang mine to dry. I love the hooded tunic top and the matching pull on pants. I have them in the hemp color. That color sold out quickly last year. Hopefully, it will be reordered.

The whisper knit is a soft, silky textured sweater knit. I'm between sizes and have found that in WK tops, I can size down. It feels cool on the body and doesn't overheat me, even when I am having my own personal summer.

The ponte knit is my favorite Linea fabric. I really love the way it fits and feels. It is substantial enough to hold its shape but has enough give to be comfortable. It packs easily and you can mix and match the pieces in the collection. It's a perfect travel knit.

When I went out of town for a weeklong trial, I packed WK skirts and sweaters and ponte knit jackets and pants, and I was able to get it all in one suitcase. That included boots, tights, undergarments, casual clothing for after work, swim suit, and pajamas. That simplified things for me.
