Some advice about shoe colors please.

I am not naturally stylish. I need some guidance from you fashionistas please. I just bought 3 pairs of JJill Pure Jill ponte knit boot cut pants for fall in black, gray, and denim. I know black shoes goes with all three, but what about brown and navy? Can you wear navy shoes with black pants or brown with black or gray pants? Thanks.

I would stick with the black or navy. Personally I would not wear brown with those colors.

I would buy deep burgundy shoes - I think they are called cordovan sometimes.

That color is in style right now...but is a classic too.

Dark gray (charcoal) is another good neutral shoe color.

Hi dperry!

Ok, these are my suggestions:

When wearing BLACK Clothing,.. You can wear Black, Gray Shoes or Boots.

Now For Example:

You are wearing... "Black Pants"

and the the blouse or sweater you are weraing with it has some red in it...You can then also wear Red Shoes to make that color pop. It will "Pull" it all together. Also, MATCH you Handbag with your Shoes.

Brown Pants...You can wear, Brown, Tan, Nude, or Beige Shoes or Boots and match your "Handbag with the Shoe or Boot" color.

Navy Pants...I would wear Navy Shoes.

Unless again, you are wearing a blouse or sweater with another color in it say again Red...Then you can wear Red Shoes and match you handbag with the shoe color.

Denim:

Blue Denim: Blue, Brown, Tan, Cordovan Shoe or Boot Color.

Black Denim: Black or Gray Shoes or Boots or a Color if you are wearing that color in your your handbag. Remember match you shoes/boots with your handbag.

I agree with @Bellabutterfly, except for the part of matching your bag with your footwear. That is old-school. Same goes for matching belts.

You can easily wear wine-colored or burgundy shoes, along with multi-color shoes, with those colors.

I would wear any of those colors with the denim.

I might wear black and navy shoes with grey - depends on the colors in top.

I probably wouldn't pair brown shoes with grey pants.

As others have said, you can also add a pop of color with shoes and boots / booties. Reds, burgundys, tans or even matallics - it just depends on what color(s) are in your top.

Experiment! Explore!

Since it is SO hard to find styles in navy shoes to the degree that can be found with black shoes, many of us haven't been able to and substitute black with navy pants or skirts. Navy has been in short supply for a very long time.

I wear black with all my pants, except brown, for which I have brown shoes. I will wear red shoes if I'm wearing a red top and I tend to wear more colored shoes in the summer.

Not a fashionista ... but this i what I wear:

Navy and Denim ..... British tan or navy. I particularly like tan with denim.

Navy .... black

Gray .... black or British tan

I only wear brown shoes with brown pants.

I still match my handbag and shoes to my outfit....just the way I was brought up and I like the look....

I like my black shoes with grey and black pants. I think wine shoes are nice with grey too.

I prefer navy shoes with navy pants, although I have worn black and brown shoes depending on the rest of the outfit.

IMO any shoe color works with denim.

It depends what color top you are wearing. Red or burgundy looks nice with navy or gray.

Unless you have an exact match, navy shoes with navy pants or gray shoes with gray pants clash.

Metallics like pewter or bronze can look nice.

I do not like black shoes with navy pants unless you feature black in your outfit.
