Haven't been watching the shows; however, over the last year, I noticed that I now have a nice wardrobe of long cardigans, shawls, shrugs, capes and a poncho.

My basic seasonal wardrobes haven't changed but the addition of these items has made me more comfortable: going in and out of overly air-conditioned places. When the seasons change, these items are easy to remove and make transition to cooler weather easier.

i always keep a neutral wrap in the car, just in case.

It is not just QVC. Everyone everywhere seems to have lots of them ready for fall. Ponchos & capes seem to be around all the time but definitely more in the last season or two.

I think the longer cardigans/dusters were just starting to show up last fall/winter.

The fashion industry seems to push one or two styles on us over & over long past when most of us are tired of them. The hi/lo tops are an example. If they could just learn moderation...

According to some fashion "experts" , THE CAPE is the NEW JACKET for fall/winter 2016. I'm not diggin' it.

From a manufacturing point of view that's an easy way to profit...very little effort to construct and sparse hardware, if any and minimal amount of fabric needed compared to a traditional jacket.

All of these styles have gone in and out of " style" for years. I have collected enough of them and do not need any more. I will be looking for fresh new items. If they are not available that is OK. I will shop in my own closet and rotate out pieces that I probably did not wear last year. Nothing new to purchase is good news for my bank account.

I have a chuckle everytime the hosts are saying how excited they are at wearing coats and boots and scarves... just a few weeks ago they were so looking forward to the warmth and summer clothes. I take everything the hosts say with a grain of salt. Look at this TS today.. an out of date poorly fitting animal skin. QVC can not even get a style that is attractive to sell. Repeats, out of date fashion and no real deals.....

No wonder that their bottom line$$$ was in the red this past quarter... QVC is not stepping up to the plate in offering anything new or interesting. Sales are going to suffer because of this... also their website is the pits.

All this talk of sweaters, capes and ponchos is making me hot! LOL. It's a very warm and humid day here in the Northeast.

Long cardigans never go out of style. I have one from 1990! It was dark navy and still OK. That's more of a testament to quality. I won't part with it.

Q has to plan their programming and product way in advance. You're kind of stuck. I think it would be OK if Q focused a little more on quality and classic designs.

The time cycle for traditional retail seems to be shorter. In the case of H&M, it's very short. They focus on current trend.

I have nothing against ponchos, capes, long cardi's, etc. If you like them then that's fine. I have tried many ponchos on in the last year and every one seems to drown me.

The point of my original post is that they are showing the same styles with every vendor on the same day. What makes one better than another? Price point? Fabric? Designer? Aren't they all some sort of rayon/nylon/poly blend? Aren't they all in the same color families - black, brown, olive, navy, etc.

How do you decide - if you want one - which one to buy?

Yesterday Lisa Rinna's clothing all looked alike to me (except for the short plaid moto/cape thing). Not sure what would entice someone to pick one sweater over another.

(I picked none.)

For fall I like to wear coats or jackets that have some structure to them. Sweater coats that are taylored and not boxy is what I like.

Winter months I wear longer, heavier versions of taylored and fitted coats. Most of my coats and jackets have collars and hardware like stylish buttons or some zippers placed in the right places. I'm really not a big fan of the zipper...it's really a disgraceful industrial invention, that made it's way into fashion.

I've never regretted moving to a warm climate (grew up mostly in Chicagoland) but I am always a bit sad when fall comes because I dearly love warm/heavy winter sweaters, jackets, coats, etc. If I don't wear my suede jacket much how can I justify adding more of them, and leather, and... lol

I don't own many of these items so I'm shopping for the right one.

I don't know about others, but for me, it is just that they show so much of a single style that I end up disliking it. A little of this, a little of that makes a better wardrobe, for me anyway.

I like the idea of ponchos & capes but I need styles that are a bit more fitted ( but not skin-tight) or I end up looking sloppy and huge. I'm sort of petite (my legs are a wee bit too long for petites, a wee bit too short for average) and have an hourglass figure. I've also lost a lot of weight & that probably figures in to why I feel rather shapeless clothes don't look good on me.

For me personally, it's simply that all that excess fabric just bothers me flapping around me. It also never really hangs perfectly like you see it on air or in a photo shoot.

These fashions are not a new look, I bought all that stuff last fall and I'm not buying it again.

I have an entire drawer dedicated to this look: Ruanas, ponchos, capes, capelets, turtlenecks that look like ponchos, etc.

I have a section of my sweater drawer with about a dozen long, duster cardigans (such as the one from Halston here at the Q.)

Enough.
