The High/Low hem look in fashion

I think this look is here to stay. Like the boot cut Jean, it may not be the hot fashion of the season, but, The boot cut Jean always look good....I also think the high/low "look" on tops will stay a popular look for a long time to come.

I think so, too. Hi-lo hems on skirts and dresses, however, are on the way out.

I am not a fan of high/lo hems or bootcuts.....i would be happy if they both go away.....

I much prefer a high/low hem (shirt) over and even hemline that hits mid thigh! I'd like to see shirts that aren't long in general though. Besides classic tees and tanks I find most top lengths excessive.

I like it in skirts and dresses. Was standing outside my office a few weeks ago when a young woman walked by, across the street, in a flowy high/low skirt in shades of light green with a simple white tee or tank (I forget which).

The front of the skirt was approximately knee length with the back a few inches longer. the high/low of the light weight skirt allowed the fabric to flow so beautifully behind her as she walked! I definitely get the appeal

I like a high low on both tops and some dresses, but not if they are extreme. Just a gentle dip, not something that looks like you're gonna fling the back part over a piano stool.

I don't like the high in front and low in back in a dress. Seeing the lining or inside of the dress just looks odd to me.

I agree. Unless the dress is nicely finished underneath, it just looks like a word I can't type here.

I am very short & very wide, & I do like the hi/lo hems, just not too long. I never liked the short shrugs, so I was glad to see that fashion item go away. My rear is my biggest problem, I always felt like the shrugs hit just where I wanted to cover up,lol....

I have a number of high low tops. I wear them because I like them. I don't necessarily care if they are in or out. Not a fan of bootcut pants. I have a couple pairs that I bought over the last year thinking I would give them another try.

About the short shrug...I have not heard that they are out. I still see many wearing them, myself included.

Many of you may remember I have a lot of study as well as practical application in design. Here goes,

In that we've had them for about four years there are a few "symptoms" a trend is beginning it's way down hill.

The upper designers generally aren't showing them any longer.

Shoppers are buying less or not buying. Clearance doesn't count.

Shoppers are tired of the look.

The style can't be geared to every age level.

Most of the things we call "classics" or "basics" like tank tops, were trends that were widely loved, everyone could wear them, and they found a permanent place in our wardrobe.

@colliegirls, I think shrugs are too functional to lose them.

A sleeveless item can be sold to a much wider base if you can deal with a way to cover arms. In that the cartigan is still going on, and Karen Kane had a similar item last year, I think they'll still be available and probably become a classic. They're almost ten years in the market and "short over long" is still trending very strong.

We experienced a blisteringly hot spell ending just a few days ago, and I have to say that I saw some enchanting looks in sheer floaty fabrics, navies and pastels, and asymmetrical hems.

Nothing I'd be able to wea, but for some women, very pretty.
