Shopping Alone

When I go out to shop I am alone 99% of the time. I can get a lot accomplished when I am by myself, but sometimes it would be fun to have someone with me. My DH, my 2 sisters, and all my friends hate shopping. They have no interest in fashion or clothes other than the utilitarian aspect of it.

I used to go shopping with my mom and aunt who both had a great sense of style. We would shop and try things on and talk about them. We always had a good time. Since they both passed away I haven't had anyone to talk with about my shopping for years so...

Thank you to all the readers and posters here for giving me an outlet to discuss fashion, style, clothes, etc. I enjoy having your company as I shop, even if it is in spirit and not in person.

If I want to shop seriously, I am alone. If I am with friends, we talk, look around, and eat, but don't accomplish much in terms of shopping.

I shop alone if I really want to seriously shop. If it's an outing type thing, then having a friend or friends along is fun. I seldom make a purchase if shopping with friends though.

I rarely go B&B shopping anymore, even though I live in a city of 50,000 that's a retail mecca of shopping and eateries. I find everything I need online or with certain clothing lines that I like on a couple of the shopping channels. When I was in my thirties I used to enjoy going shopping at the mall with a girlfriend, just for the fun of it. But I also was hanging out with those girlfriends at the clubs in the evening! Times have changed, I guess!

I shop alone 99% of the time. I like shopping alone... no distractions... no talking ... just me and me. I am my own best friend..... other than my Golden Lola... she is nice because she never talks!

I'm in the camp of having to shop alone if I'm seriously shopping. Though sometimes with a girlfriend we start out together and separate. We then regroup, have lunch and go again. Works for us.

I have shopped alone for at yeast 45 years. On the few occasions when I have taken a friend or neighbor with me, THEY always wanted to pick something out for me..............

"Alone" is a huge word in my life...has been for quite some time. I live, eat, shop, ...you get it...alone. Coming here to these forums is fun and informative. I learn a lot and I laugh a lot here. I'm happy to stay here. It's all good for me here.

I know what you mean about having someone to shop with! In the past I would shop with my older sister! She loved it also! My younger sister never liked it at all!! My older sister passed away a few years ago and I miss her so much because we clicked in every way and our shopping was one of our fun times together!!

I find so many of my friends don't like shopping and think if you like to shop you are a "shopaholic" Wrong!! But when I want to serious shop I do better alone although my sister and I did make purchases when we were together and we also had fun!! Wish she was still here!

I too prefer to shop alone. When I do shop with someone else (usually my sister) I end up buying something I don't really like because she would say "Oh, that looks so nice" and when I got it home I didn't really like it.

@wilma I know exactly how you feel. I am in the same boat. Miss shopping with my mom. We had fun shopping and of course we always incorporated lunch with our shopping sprees. LOL

I really don't like shopping with someone ... but will do it if they want me to tag along in their search and it's not going to take several hours.

I never buy anything when I'm with someone, because the only opinion that counts is mine.

I find it sad the times when I've been in a fitting room and suddenly someone asks me what I think about what they're trying on. How is it that they don't know their own mind? Are they really that clueless?

I think shopping with another person is just an occasion to socialize.

Shopping on my own is when I go to get things done. I prefer shopping alone.

I prefer to shop alone. I like to wander back and forth and look through the racks several times. I can't do that if I have someone shopping with me.

I don't mind going shopping with someone else though.

I have always preferred to shop alone but I do miss the nice times my Mom and I would have going shopping together.

If I have a goal, for example "dress pants", I'll go alone. If I just want to see what's come in, I love to do it with a friend.

I prefer shopping alone. The only person I like to shop with is my mother. We kind of just go about our way and look at what we want though. I don't like having someone with me all the time. We are all interested in different things and like different styles. I know what I like and don't feel the need to get someone's opinion. LOL, I also don't like dawdling around. I don't want to wait around while others look at stuff I have no interest in. I just want to do my thing.

Same problem for me! I love to shop, but first of all, we don't have any real shopping in this little town I live in. Secondly, the friends I have here are not interested in shopping or fashion. When we lived in other large cities, I always had plenty of people to shop with.

On the other hand, I get a lot more accomplished when I am alone. If there is one thing I do not enjoy, it is shopping with someone who isn't interested in shopping. All they do is follow you around...kind of nerve racking...almost like when a sales lady follows you around.

I've always been a solitary shopper. Even as a kid, my sister and I preferred to ake solo turns browsing the catalogues.In my adult life I have never required a buddy in order to shop. When I am with my friends I always try to steer the time away from stores. The exception being if I have been specifically asked to tag alone with someone to offer my style advice or cosmetic assistance. In those trips I rarely end up buying anything for myself as my focus is on helping the friend.
