THANK YOU!

Thanks ladies for all the helpful posts! I am making strides in my closet to let things go and to begin using my new things! It was suggeested I seek counseling, for which I would rather not invest time and money, but I did take the time to self assess. I am deciding to redo my closet organization, which will help me immensely! I belive that some of you hit the nail on the head by asking if I am buying for a lifestyle I do not have. This is the crux. I am a NYC born gal living side state in the country, and due to my RA I never went back to work, after raisin my daughter. My legs were badly affected and until my BLTKR I could bately walk. Now I am much more like I was before I was so hanicapped. But I was always suiting and dressing my self for a work life in NYC. Or for a vacation or worship. The rest of the time I am all casual and comfort. So this is what I decided to do. First clean out the old, to give the new a fighting chance. I decided to keep some nicer dresses and jacket(suit) for worship, funerals, etc... But now I wam going to deliberately narrow my focus to what I enjoy wearing andset a couple of things in my suitcase for my upcoming vacation, and give myself some new things to wear. It wwill take a week or so to redo, but I am going to try behavior mod by posting a note to self in my closet tosay it is ok to put on that new top I am dying to wear. Yesterday I wore a Susan Graver T I,d been saving and it looked great! Thanks ladies for you support!!

I am all in favor of moving things out when there is no longer a need for them. My company has changed the dress code a number of times over the years. I ended up with a closet full of things I no longer wear. Felt so freeing letting it go. Good luck.

@April of NY, I need to take a page from your book, lol. I have been retired for 3 years now and STILL have too many work type clothes in my closet. It is my intention in these next 2 weeks to go through everything in there, try things on for fit (I've lost weight) and either donate, take for alterations or toss. That will leave my closet very nearly empty, but that is ok. I do plan to keep the bare minimum for dressier ocassions only. My life now is casual with a capital C, which is how I want it. So why is this so hard to do, lol.

Good for you on the great job you have/are doing.

Good for you! You've decided what to do and how to do it and that is 3/4 of the battle. To be honest, I never had your problem, my closet has always been work in progress. I love to shop and I love to wear what I buy and I never had a problem getting rid of things I didn't need or simply wasn't wearing anymore. However, now I do find myself at a point at which my lifestyle has changed and I have to rethink my wardrobe. I work at home 3 days a week now; I'm in the office only on Tuesdays and Fridays and Fridays are casual Fridays. So, I really only need office wear one day a week. Since I already have a lot of clothes, I have had to stop myself from buying things I like and want because I won't have an opportunity to wear them. My next step will be giving some of my office wear to one of those charities that helps women prepare for work.
