O/T: Does anyone else dislike New Year's Eve?

It's my least favorite of all the holidays.

I never go out on NYE for fear of the drunk drivers on the road.

We usually watch the celebration in NYC, our old hometown, and then go to bed before midnight here on the west coast.

Does anyone else dislike this holiday?

Hi, house cat! My hubby and I share similar perspective as you regarding this holiday. We don't get the hype. We stay in because of drunk drivers (and check points that back up traffic lol) and usually make it a family day with our small children, then watch the NY ball and call it a night. We like the aspect of fresh start, clean slate and all that, but our tradition is to celebrate each other and stay home (except errands in the early part of the day, if need be), cook, and watch the festivities on tv. Even in my carefree days, I only went to ONE NYE "gala" and goodness did I pay for it the next morning. So not worth it. I checked that box and never looked back.

I'm grateful that I've lived to see another year come and go, but for some reason I'm always just a little bit sad on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. But, I am hoping and praying that the coming year is a very good one.

We used to go out on NYE with other couples, but we haven't for quite a few years. Last night we had seafood and some wine--in bed by 10 p.m. I didn't stay up until midnight, LOL.

We were as exciting as you! It is so cold here, we didn't even want to venture out to a neighborhood bistro.

We had the most beautiful lobster tails and I bought a steak for him. He cooked the tails and seared the steak while I made a huge platter of salad. Had a little wine. It was wonderful! (We didn't make it to midnight either!)

LOL It's fairly cold here too Magic. I, too, bought lobster tails, but I had the ahi tuna instead. DH wanted chicken gizzards again--can you even believe it? We also had salad and veggies. It was low key but nice. I hope you are feeling better btw (allergies…).

When my father-in-law roasts a turkey, the guys all clamor over the gizzard! That chewy, grizzley thing must be tasty!

Wouldn't say I hate NYE but think it's an arbitrary, overblown excuse to charge people ridiculous prices for restaurant meals and dances. Went to those through my 20s, now in 50s I'm content to stay at home. Was invited to a NYE party that we all agreed would end by 10 (!) so we could go home... but was too tired to go. Instead was asleep by 8:30, then woken up by fireworks at midnight and drifted back to dreamland. lol
