Hi ladies,

I wondered if any of you run a small online businesses in Pennsylvania - whether on Etsy or Ebay. I would like to open an Etsy shop. I live in PA. Do I need to register my shop as a business? I wasn't sure of what exactly I needed to do before selling anything. I have a binder full of information from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue that I found online.

I've read about registering your business name and applying for a license? I've read about sole proprietorships and registering a fictitious business name or something along those lines. I've heard others say I don't need to do anything until I sell a certain quota. I feel like I am going in circles as I'm not sure what exactly applies to me. I simply want to open an Etsy shop and sell vintage clothing.

Can anyone help me out with the process? I do know that I would have to charge sales tax to PA buyers, so that is a start. I wasn't sure if I have to go my local tax office or small business association in person before doing anything further?

Thanks in advance for your help ladies!!!!!

azureblue
