what's the oldest item/s in your closet and can you still wear or fit into it/them?

i have several pairs of jeans that are at least 15 years old and they are in excellent condition, and i can still get into them (thank God!) and i still do wear them! the same with shorts. little did I know that they would be really good buys all those years ago

Hi and welcome to the boards...

Well, I have a warm, fluffy pullover that I bought at a boutique at the beach maybe 10 years ago...it's a little big now (a good problem to have lol), but I still wear it.

I do have a blouse that belonged to my Grandmother...guessing it's nearly 100 years old! Too small, but I would never get rid of it. The quality and construction are TDF...sometimes I take it out and just look at it and drool. Those days are long gone.

But, strangely, the oldest item I own is a pair of old wool socks! Borrowed them from my brother-in-law about 20 years ago...still wearing them...ok, "borrowed" might not be the correct word. LOL.

Obviously, I don't wear it, but my wedding gown from 1980 still fits! I am not one who keeps clothing, I tend to donate and get new!

when you mentioned your nana's blouse, a regret instantly hit me. my now deceased mom gave me a black cardigan she owned when she was single. it was in perfect condition and had intricate beading all done in black too. I used to wear it and it fit me perfectly. I can't remember now where it's gone to and I feel sorry that I no longer have it ((

This one's easy. In 1951 when I got my first job and first paycheck, I bought a pair of alligator pumps I'd been eyeing for months. They cost $15.00 and there was no tax then. They're a little tight now so I don't wear them, but they are still "gorgeous".

Can anyone beat that????

Oh wow, freakygirl...is there any possibility that your mom's sweater is packed away...in the attic...misfiled, so to speak...anything like that? I would cry!

macDuff, it may be stored away but I have absolutely no idea where to begin looking. it was so pretty like my mom.

btw, does your brother in law know that you're still wearing those "borrowed" socks 20 years later?! that's too funny!

I have 2 Pendelton wool jackets that are from the 80's in a size 10 petite and I can still wear them. The one is red with black velvet collar and lapels that I wear every Christmas. Thankfully Pendelton didn't buy into the big shoulder pad fashion of the 80's or I would never had kept those jackets all these years.

All my old stuff got donated or went to consignment when I lost weight. I'm glad they don't fit! lol... I have replaced my wardrobe a few times in the last few years because of that.

But the oldest thing I have now that fits? It might be a G by Giuliana blouse. I got it in November, 2013. It is not too big for me yet but it was way too small when I got it.

I have a white with red stripes Adidas sport jacket from the mid-1970s. It has my letter patches from high school sewn on, along with a multitude of skating pins. It just sits in the closet. I really need to make up some kind shadow box to show off the pins.

I have a few select items - blouses and dresses - from the "new romantics" period of the 80s. All were worn to special events and just can't part with them. Can't fit into any of them anymore either!

I have an autumnal looking sweatshirt from 1993. It's dark green with a wine colored trim on the collar. The scene is a fox in the woods. I call it Thanksgiving shirt. I wear it every Thanksgiving lol.

oldest item in my closet is my wedding dress from 1984 and yes I can fit into it but that hasn't been the case until just recently after losing 120 lbs. and going from a size 2X to a Medium

Royal blue and navy Halston partial wrap dress from about 1981. It has an inset waistband and long tapered skirt. If you watched the most recent episode of Deutschland 83, you will see that dark haired East German government worker wearing a tan dress that is nearly identical.
