topic Clever Marketing? in Fashion

Last Monday the Logo Lavish chiffon top was presented and sold out is seconds. There was no wait list available and customer service said they would not be reordering this top. Well, a few days later it appeared on the Logo site and is available. Makes me wonder if this was a marketing ploy to create a frenzy to buy when they present items in the Lavish line. Since it was available only a few days later, they can't be returned items with so many available for order. Clever or deceitful.

My understanding is that LOGO Lavish will be limited edition pieces with no re-orders. I think the wait list shown for some colors/sizes is people who ordered by check and QVC hasn't received payment.

Create a ""buying frenzy""? I don't think so.

could, also, be people who put the items in their shopping carts and never completed their order...just left it sitting there....

that happens a lot on LTS....if you keep stalking the item...it sometimes shows up before the specials are over...

I think OP is way overthinking this and still missed out on the idea that way too many Logo lovers (and some for other lines) pretty automatically order everything that comes on air before it's ever on air. Then they wake up and cancel.

If there's any evil going on, I just don't think it's being done by anyone in marketing at QVC. I don't even know that over ordering is a real damage to anyone except the person doing it, but it certainly does mess with QVC/Logo doing sane marketing.

Lots of posters crave the QVC of old. Although I don't do that, I do wonder sometimes what they'd win or lose if they stopped accepting pre-orders and made buyers wait like we had to in those days so many are nostalgic for.

I think that by adding the word "Lavish" they can automatically charge $100 for a top-- that's clever marketing. They call it a "limited edition" because they don't want to manufacture that many, for fear that they will be stuck with them. The price will scare off most buyers, IMO.

An article published a few years talked about some of the marketing ploys and sales tactics used by the Q. It was really interesting and made me realize what "pigeon" I am!

I know every company going uses marketing gimmicks, whether it's "free" shipping, BOGO, limited hours, coupons, whatever - I just think that when some lines on the Q bet a cult following, the members of the cult scarf up everything they want and then some before items ever hit the air. Then they get sane and cancel some and the rest of the audience can try.

A few years back, the Linea Ladies were even warning non-cult people off from buying to try and then returning what they didn't want so that Louis wouldn't have a poor return showing! Those were the days when nothing he showed interested me anyway, so I never crossed their line. Finally he's showing an item here and there I might actually wear, so if I want I'll order, try, and, yes, return, if I don't like what I get.

I'm not a QVC pigeon - I like what I buy, but except for one year back several years now when I overordered on my skincare, I don't buy a whole lot. I still get value for my dollar when I do buy and that's what matters to me.

BTW- no amount of marketing, evil or just typical, would make me think I'd look okay to walk out of my house in Logo. Love the colors - but I know the styles and the fabrics are wrong for my body type -- and I don't need a professional stylist or even a good friends to tell me that! I( can still see.
