I've just watched the presentation on item A265139 G.I.L.I. Convertible Leather Micro Bag 2 and heard the statement above from Shawn which I found it's hard to believe...

Carolyn & Mary Beth have said the same thing before although they say "I own this in this color, or I own this in that color, I have this cookwear set, I own this vacuum" and so forth so what's the deal? It's a marketing gimmick to get people to buy their stuff. If they tell viewers they own such and such item they think viewers will buy it. Also except for fashion shows the hosts are almost never wearing a QVC related piece of clothing.

A QVC host owning something is far different from customers spending their hard-earned cash. Let's face it, perks of their job include getting a great many things free. Not long ago, I remember Alberti doing a fashion show early in the morning. He actually said he was given the product which he passed on to his mother.

When the host on any shopping channel says I own this or I bought this before I came on air or Someone please get on the phone and order this for me, all it does is make them sound untruthful, I know they are saying what they are told to say but it takes away any trust I might have in purchasing the item.

It must get lots of sales though because the buyer might think, OH, she has this so I have to get it.

Does anyone know how much of an employee discount the hosts receive for clothing? Do they ever get a clothing freebie?

They get employee discounts but as for how much I don't know and no they don't get a clothing freebie afaik. They may perhaps get to ""test out"" a fashion TSV for a few weeks before the official launch but I believe they either have to purchase it via their employee discount or return it.

Shawn recently posted on her FB page a picture of her visit in NY to see friends. She showed them pouring through 'baskets of goodies' from QVC. It looked like beauty samples....they were many of them. Perhaps the hosts are given samples to try? If so, I have no problem with this. It is theirs to do with as they wish.

I'm not sure that I'd like to hear about it on a live broadcast though, as I have credit card in hand, lol!

Yes, they are given samples to try. I remember Sandra mentioning that she was given the sandals she was presenting, and she had worn them on her vacation, and they were comfortable. I've heard other hosts say they're given samples.

When I worked for a cable company, we received a 20% off QVC "associate" discount during Nov. and Dec. every year.

I imagine they receive something similar - plus samples to try.
