How do you feel about linen?

I see a lot of 100% linen tops (Talbots, Macys) right now. So far, I've been reluctant to buy. I'm concerned about shrinkage after washing, and the wrinkling issue. Also, will linen tops be see-through?

And what about linen blends?

I love linen. Yes, linen does wrinkle but that is the nature of the fabric. Many of my pieces are from JJill and they do not wrinkle as much as other brands. And no, most are not see through. I have not had shrinking issues. I air dry my pieces.

I also love linen, it is one of my favorite summer fabrics. Yes it will wrinkle, if wrinkles drive you crazy stay away from linen.

I only dry for a few minutes in the dryer then air dry, no shrinking.

Seems like this discussion comes up every year about this time.

I don't wear linen much anymore, but I used to wear it a lot. People either love it or hate linen, it seems. I've never had a problem with it shrinking or being see through, but wrinkle it does. No getting around that.

I love linen too. Quality linen can be washed and tossed in the dryer. I take mine out when it's still damp because it makes ironing easier. I like the crispness and the wrinkles.

I love linen I was able to pick up quite a few pieces over the years from Lord & Taylor, Terry Lewis when she was at HSN, TJ Maxx/Marshalls and Louis Dell'Olio. Now if I purchase linen I look for sales because the cost has gone way up from when I was buying on a regular basis.

I've never had a problem with shrinkage, linen is a very forgiving airy, cool and loose fabric that is not see through maybe because of the actual weave of the linen but I still wear skintone undergarments with my white linen pieces. If you don't like wrinkles then linen is not for you though.

I am a lover of 100% linen. As a purist, I don't care for linen blends. While a blend may cut down the wrinkling aspect of the garment, it just simply does not have the same organic look and feel.

My linen pieces are casual and, therefore, the inherent wrinkles seem okay for a beachy vibe. I machine wash, machine dry and don't even touch them with an iron. I feel that once linen is ironed, it becomes much more susceptible to the dreaded wrinkles.

Oh, one more thing. My experience has shown that the heavier weight the linen, the less wrinkling.

I absolutely love linen, for the 5 minutes I have it on before it starts to wrinkle. It doesn't just wrinkle, it looks like an accordion. I gave away all my linen a few years ago. I agree with some who've said linen blend is just not the same, but it's a substitute I have grown to like very much. In fact, as with most other fabrics, newer technology has some linen blends looking fabulous.

Until I can retire, and live every day with my painting easel and straw hat on the beach, I will stay away from 100% linen.

I don't iron my linen ever and it looks great. I put it in the dryer for maybe 5 minutes tops, take it out, hang it up and smooth it out and let air dry. Pants, button down shirts, anything. It doesn't have to be babied at all. Nothing cooler and more effortlessly chic IMHO. Not see through, doesn't shrink.
